Event warmup:

1 lap around bike course, 1/2 mile run, quick dip in the res.

  • 820 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Wow, didn't execute a good plan here. I thought I'd be tough and get right up front - well I hung with the guys for the first 200 or so and then slowed way down. Got off course a little bit and swam breastroke at times to get my bearings. Water was nice and pretty clean, no current at all.
What would you do differently?:

Slower start, better sighting, keep a better average pace
Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Should work on a better mounting plan. Got a little disoriented and dizzy at the transistion, had to sit down to put shoes on...
Bike
  • 32m 37s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 22.81 mile/hr
Comments:

Got some side stiches at the beginning of the bike course and they pretty much never went away for the rest of the race - I hated that! Bike felt pretty good other than that. Great conditions, I took the turns fast and kept a fast cadence, didn't really get passed much and passed several people.
What would you do differently?:

Shift more to keep the cadence right, get a faster start to the bike
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Dismount was very abrubt since I wasn't doing the ride on top of the shoes thing...didn't clip out of my left pedal at first. The actual getting the shoes off and running shoes on part went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

practice the shoeless mounts/dismounts
Run
  • 23m 4s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Still had some serious side stiches going on pretty much through the entire run. Run was very slow, got passed several times, clearly THE area to work on! Picked up the pace slightly at the end but didn't have much for a sprint.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor running

Event comments:

Beautiful venue and a beautiful day for my first tri. There were a lot of very fast people at this event, my age group didn't seem to represent very well! Overall I am happy with my finish, but lots of room for improvement!
