Overall Rank = 47/154
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 4/16
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:00am; toast with peanut butter and 1.5 cups of coffee. Got to course at a decent time. There was no chip assigned to my bib #, and I was re-assigned a new number twice (took some time).
Event warmup:

Light, short, and easy jog.
Swim
  • 09m
  • 587 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Supposedly 52 degree water temp, but felt warmer and very tolerable. Small enough wave group that it wasn't too crowded, but enough to pace off of. Lack of open water training and trust in my sighting slowed me down.
What would you do differently?:

Trust in my sighting and focus more on the swimming technique. Perhaps find a good person to draft off of.
Transition 1
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

First ever transition of first ever triathlon. Fumbled getting feet into socks and shoes. Feet still very wet. Did not practice enough with shoes clipped into pedals to trust that technique during race. Using rented bike.
What would you do differently?:

More practice with getting feet into shoes; either clipped in, or not. Determine if I can be comfortable enough to ride without socks and ditch them if need be.
Bike
  • 35m 17s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 19.56 mile/hr
Comments:

Definitely my weakest event due to my training on a mountain bike and lack of training on a road bike. Did not drink enough water during the biking due to a lack confidence in maintaining bike speed while drinking water. With all that said, bike course was real fun and was my favorite leg of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on a road bike (look into purchasing my own).
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Some confusion between volunteers and where they were asking riders to dismount. Slow entering transition area. Feet felt frozen from wet socks as from T1. Took off socks and slipped on shoes. Missed opportunities to be more efficient and shave off time.
Run
  • 19m 28s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Around mile 1.5 either gravel or friction with shoe began to rub against my achilles of both feet - broke layer of skin. Aside from that discomfort, generally felt great and no pain. Was passing a lot of people from other age groups, would've like to have someone to pace off of.
Post race
Event comments:

Lots of helpful volunteers and race organizers. Seemed to be well run despite my race # snafu before the race
