Swim
Comments: The start of the pool was kinda crazy waiting in line -- the numbers on our arms was supposed to be the order you went in the pool, but apparently that went to the wayside after about 30 mins because it became a free for all and log jam of a line with no order at all. Jumped into the pool feet first and started swimming! I was doing fine until I felt a sharp pain in my neck one time while breathing, like a crick in my neck -- it was weird and hurt for a length of the pool, but then it went away and I didn't notice it anymore. What would you do differently?: Put a shorter swim time down when I register for a pool swim tri! Too many people guess at what they swim and I don't want to be waiting for 1.5 hours to get in the pool. By the time I get to the bike there are lots of people already finished with the race -- I think if I can get on the bike course faster I will be pushed a little harder rather than being out there almost by myself. Transition 1
Comments: Could be a bit faster in T1. Took a little while to get my socks and shirt on. What would you do differently?: Maybe wear a tri top and practice riding my bike without socks. I know it won't help my overall time that much, but maybe it will pay off down the road. Bike
Comments: I didn't have my Garmin set up and forgot my bike computer, so I never knew how fast I was going at any time which was a bit frustrating. Almost all of the bikes on the course by the time I got out there were mountain bikes, which was nice passing lots of people, but nothing to help me figure out how fast I was going. What would you do differently?: I only had one water bottle filled with water. I should have had some type of electrolyte drink as I was sweating profusely and towards the end of the bike was not feeling that great. Transition 2
Comments: I slowly jogged my bike to T2. Unbuckled my shoes, took my helmet off, sat down and threw my shoes and hat on and took off. Ooops -- I forgot my race belt on the ground. What would you do differently?: Put my race number on! My number was written just above both knees so my # was still easily seen. Have an orange or something ready -- I felt really dehydrated while running out of T2 and hoping there was water somewhere soon. Run
Comments: It was hot! I jogged at about a 10 min pace for the first 3/4 mile and was starting to feel horrible. I ended up walking for the most part the remainder of the race. I SLOWLY jogged - a fast walker could have passed me - the last 1/2 mile to finish. What would you do differently?: Run more beforehand. Make sure I was better hydrated before running. Post race
Warm down: Drank two bottles of vitamin water and walked around for awhile. They had post-race burgers, but I dont' think I could have eaten anything if I wanted to yet. What limited your ability to perform faster: (1) Having 7 people stay the weekend with me before the race to go to a college football game -- and drank too much the two days before! I was probably dehydrated before the race started. (2) lack of quality run training. Event comments: I've only raced two races, so not much to compare to. It was a little more chaotic to start the swim than the other pool swim tri I did. The finish wasn't as good as my first tri -- but then again I can only compare the two I've done. The finish looked like it was a bit more happening earlier on -- since I was in the last wave to start I may have missed some stuff by the time I finished. The youth tri was great -- I would definitely recommend the youth tri for the youngsters! Last updated: 2009-05-19 12:00 AM

Went to bed around 9pm -- woke up at 4am and made breakfast (peanut butter and honey sandwich for me and scrambled eggs/toast for my daughter). Loaded the bikes up and woke my daughter up around 5am to eat and get ready.
The youth race was first at 7am -- then the sprint race was afterwards at 8:30am - although I didn't get into the pool to start until 10am.
