Swim
Comments: Swim was a 1 minute PR for me at this distance. I was fairly pleased with my effort but it was like a washing machine out ther and I kept bumping into people. I tried to use the advise from one of the BT'ers who suggested linning up on the far right and swimming directly toward the first buoy. It worked pretty well and the crowd finally thinned out when I made the final turn heading west at the dam My breathing was pretty good but navigation again was a problem. I did allot of zig zagging. Still anytime you PR it's a good thing. What would you do differently?: Work on navigation and try to fit in some OWS swims prior to next years event Transition 1
Comments: Another PR from last year by about a minute in a half. My suit got stuck and I had to deal with some leg cramps. I had planned to take in a GU but I was in such a hurry I forgot about it. Went w/o socks because I thought it would take forever to get them on. That seemed to work well What would you do differently?: Get better organizied. Practise transitioning from swim to bike. I am sure I could do allot better here Bike
Comments: My best training ride had been 1'43" 50" so I was very pleased and was happy to get another PR It started raining pretty hard when I first went out but it cleared off nicely at the Folley Quarter Circle. Again I followed the advise odf another BTer and worked hard for the first half of the course (uphill) and even took advantage of the downhills. However it was a little treacherous with the wet pavement and all the youngsters passing me. It was very windy around mile 15. The final 2 miles on 108 really felt good. I was afraid I had left nothing for the run. What would you do differently?: More hill and speed work leading up to the race. Transition 2
Comments: I was so pleased with my time on the bike I took longer in T2 then I should have. Last year my T2 time was around 3 Minutes What would you do differently?: Get better organized. I continued with the no sock plan sinse everything was soaking wet. It worked well but I developed a significant blister on my instep of my left foot. Run
Comments: Iput in a good deal of running time leading up to the event and it really paid off for me. Last year I did the run in 1'23"55. The first mile was my fastest and while I slowed down with the hills I never walked. I was thrilled. My best training run on the course was roughly 69 minutes without swimming or biking. I actually passed a few people. The other triathlete's were fantastic telling me they hoped they would still be running triathlon's at my age What would you do differently?: More Bricks and More speed work Post race
Event comments: Great Race I will do it again next year Last updated: 2009-05-19 12:00 AM

Very little sleep Saturday night. I kept waking up and looking at the clock. Finally got up around 5:00 AM and had 2 Kashi Bars. Left the house around 5:30 for the 10 minute ride to Cenntenial Park. Parking was a bit of a mess. MI might consider parking in the North Parking Lot next year.
I was scheduled for the 6:55 Wave (Sometimes there is a distinct advantage for being an old guy) and by the time I got body marked and my wet suit on they were calling for my wave. Walked over to swim start and was in the water before I knew what hit me.
