Pre-race routine:

Event warmup:

Jogged with Chris a little out and back on the run course.
Swim
  • 15m 44s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim felt awesome! I overcame the chaos at the beginning, with people swimming into each other left and right. I got into a fast rhythm and just kept pushing myself. It felt fun to pass people. Big improvement from last year!
What would you do differently?:

Nothin!
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

This transition felt better since I didn't have as much trouble getting my wetsuit off (still had to sit down though).
Bike
  • 38m 13s
  • 11.8 miles
  • 18.52 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt fast on the bike, the course wasn't too tough. Right at the beginning I lost my clif bar bites. Earlier I had stuck the free Hammer gel I got with my packet on my bike. I hadn't planned on having that, since the one time I've tried I nearly gagged. Well, this was all I had so I ripped it open, squeezed some in my mouth, and well, almost gagged. It was so gross. I drank a top of my sports drink, had a few more squeezes of the gel and just dealt with it!
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Run
  • 25m 10s
  • 2.8 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

I love running this course, the trees all around are so nice, and the hilly trail is a nice change from the roads. I was going fast than I expected I could (maybe thanks to the hammer gel?) and feeling alright for the first 1 and a half laps. (Chris was great at cheeing me on, giving me that little extra boost!) In my second lap I had a sharp pain in my chest that I had to just battle through. It was then that I saw the girl in my age group pass me. She flew by me, and I didn't have a chance at catching her. After the bike I was in 73rd place overall, and she was in 105th. Her run was amazing at just over 20 minutes (26 ranked run time), and she ended up beating me by 2 minutes. I still felt very proud of my run!
Post race
Warm down:

BBQ baby!

Event comments:

This is a great course and it was a great day for a race. The sun came out and conditions were very nice. I couldn't have ended this triathlon season on a better note, with a pint glass trophy for second place in my age division, a feeling of being healthy and accomplishing my goals. Can't wait til next year...Olympic here I come!
