Run
Comments: Really wanted this to be faster. Perhaps my legs were still tired from the 8-miler yesterday morning? The 20mph winds also played a role, too. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Transition 1
Comments: This felt SLOW. Didn't help that when I got to my bike, whoever was there before had knocked mine off the rack and my helmet and shoes were all over the place. Nice. What would you do differently?: Go faster. Bike
Comments: I believe this is the fourth time this year that I've been on my bike? So, given that fact, I'm pretty pleased with this time. It was WINDY out there... going out it was a little bit of a tailwind, but not directly. Then a short bit directly into it. Then a long leg with a crosswind coming from the northwest (heading north) which was TOUGH. Supposedly 20-30mph winds out there. I was passed by few people (of course, I was also in the last wave), and did a lot of "on your left"-ing. With the limited saddle time, I thought I attacked the hills pretty well. What would you do differently?: Ride faster. Bribe Mother Nature to cut the wind down a bit... Transition 2
Comments: Again - feeling slow. My left achilles totally cramped up while I was trying to get my running shoes back on. Ouch! What would you do differently?: Go faster. Run
Comments: Man, my legs were toast. This was as fast as I could go. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Post race
Warm down: Found my parents, who had come out to cheer me on, and chatted with them as we watched the last people come in from the race. The wind - which was a bitch out on the course - was awesome afterwards since it kept it nice and cool out. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training. Or - rather - lack thereof. That's okay - this season isn't about the serious racing. Event comments: I like this race. It's small, well-organized (except for the portojohn snafu this year... but not their fault) and one of the few duathlons around. Very fun to have your only race strategy be, "Am I going as fast as I can? Yes? Then I'm good." Last updated: 2009-05-20 12:00 AM

Bagel beforehand, got stuff together because I was too lazy to do it the night before. Packed light - just my helmet and shoes, hat and sunglasses. Got there fairly early and got a good rack spot right by the bike in/out which was dang cool. Oh, and talk about a race director's nightmare: the porta-potties didn't show up! They had us walking to the fire station, the bike shop in town and standing in line for the *1* bathroom in the train station (which is where transition was). Luckily this was a small race - limited to 500 - so it wasn't that huge a deal.
Took the bike out for a short spin to make sure it still worked, seeing as how I hadn't been on it in weeks. Then did about 10 minutes of running with some strides thrown in just for kicks.
