Total Time = 1h 13m 35s
Overall Rank = 36/111
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 9/20
Pre-race routine:

Get there early, set up transition area, sign in, hang out and wait. Talk to existing friends and make more friends in the local Tri circuit.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 09m 2s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

Waited too long for the swim. 1st wave was around 0745, I went off around 2 hours later. Best swim yet. Last lap was possibly the fastest. 1st lap 30 strokes down, 34 back. After that stroke count was consistently 34 to 36 per length, except last length which was 31.
What would you do differently?:

Get in an earlier swim wave.
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

Had to put a shirt on after the swim and since I was wet the shirt got stuck the whole way. This was frustrating.
What would you do differently?:

Wear a one piece tri suit for the whole race.
Bike
  • 35m 8s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 19.64 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to hydrate better on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps a new hydration technique, like a water bottle in the aerobars. Need to look into this.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Need to look into "YANKS", instead of tying my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

YANKS, maybe.
Run
  • 25m 47s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I never felt light on my feet, my legs felt heavy and I died after the half way point. Not nearly enough fluids and it was hotter than any training day I've had yet this season.
What would you do differently?:

Hydrate better.
Post race
Warm down:

None.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hydration and possibly nutrition.

Event comments:

You can't beat this race for 12 dollars. Nice T-shirt too. There wasn't enough rack space for bikes, some had to lay them on the ground. Other than that, well run and a lot of fun. I will definitely do it again next year.

Course: As the day went on, the wind got stronger. This is another reason that an earlier swim start would have been an advantage. With the wind at my back, I was flying but with a headwind I felt sluggish. 19.6 MPH average is the fastest I've ever gone on the bike. Feet fell asleep, as usual.
