Swim
Comments: as expected, my swim performance needs alot of work. i wore a wetsuit despite the warm water because i have no confidence in my swimming and need the buoyancy. i had regrets about this decision when i started to feel really warm just before the 2nd buoy. What would you do differently?: lose the wetsuit and spend more time forcing myself to do the crawl. Transition 1
Comments: my transition location was as far from the water's edge as you can get. this required my running on packed dirt with loose pebbles but IMO I ran it well it just took more time than i would have preferred. What would you do differently?: don't wear a wetsuit and find a closer transition location. Bike
Comments: the road was a bit narrow for the number of riders given that there was traffic. there were a number of riders who didn't keep to the right and forced me to use the oncoming traffic lane for passing a few different times. riders got bunched up on the hills which cost me time that i wasn't anticipating. What would you do differently?: push harder on the hills. Transition 2
Comments: had to come to a complete stop to dismount and enter transition area, i wasn't expecting this. took a long stretch before putting on running shoes; then i took the long route out to the run which cost me probably a minute because i wasn't paying attention to the signs. What would you do differently?: make sure i find the exit for the run before the race begins. Run
Comments: i did some hip flexor stretching while on the bike and then a couple of good stretches in T2 so i felt pretty relaxed. the feet were less lead-like. my only complaint on the run was that there were people running in both directions and very close and probably the last half mile included bike traffic riding alongside which i found to be a little crazy considering there were runners in both directions. What would you do differently?: nothing; i kept it below 10 miles/hour. Post race
Warm down: general overall stretching; some fruit and some electrolyte drinks. a massage that was too short-lived. What limited your ability to perform faster: being a 1st timer. i had no idea what to expect so transition location and performance were less than stellar. Event comments: a good 1st time event; surrounded by women who were really positive and encouraging. i'm glad i chose this event as my 1st tri, it will be interesting to see how it differs from one that includes men.
