Swim
Comments: My first mass-start OWS... It wasn't pretty, but I wasn't the last one out of the water. Clearly lots of things to practice. What would you do differently?: 1. Stay calm at the start 2. Round the buoys wider 3. Keep practicing so I can focus on technique instead of freaking out over circumstances! Transition 1
Comments: Feeling like crap after the swim and walk/jogging up the hill to T1. Stopped to catch a breath and drink. In reality, I was wasting time and could've rested while coasting on the bike. After the mount line, realized my front brake quick release was open, and for some reason couldn't reach it to close while riding. Stopped to fix that, then I was off. What would you do differently?: Check the bike! Keep a better flow through T1--I can always rest on the bike! Bike
Comments: Overall happy with a top-1/3 ride. I definitely hadn't been doing many hill repeats and my gearing really didn't favor a hilly course. What would you do differently?: Attack the hills harder, don't slow down before cresting! Transition 2
Comments: Feeling slow again. Need to practice faster dismounts and just keep the rhythm going. Wasted lots of time in this transition. What would you do differently?: More transition practice, do a slow jog instead of stopping if I need a rest Run
Comments: Considering my recent hip injury, a better run than I had expected. Clearly still need to do some more bricks. The visor is the perfect headgear for the run! What would you do differently?: Nothing specific--just need to train the run a bit more. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Inexperience, lack of practice with transitions, lack of fitness. Event comments: Awesome race! Had a blast! Lots to learn, but I had a great time! Last updated: 2009-05-21 12:00 AM

Woke up at 0430, freaked out for 20 minutes because my dog had stolen my wallet and taken it under the dining room table, hidden away just enough. After that, I was good to go--had everything else packed the night before, so I woke up, threw my gear in the car, and hit the road.
No real warmup. Maybe a bad idea.
