Swim
Comments: Not sure what happened here as I was shooting for 40 minutes. The water wasn't bad or really cold, but I felt sick from the turnaround buoy to the end. Not good. Got sick in the water with a wicked headache at about 400 meters. Never had this feeling. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was OK. Bike
Comments: Started off a little slow as I shook off the bad swim. Also, came up to my wife who had just crashed her bike. We rode together for awhile until she started riding strong again. Then, she told me to get moving. What would you do differently?: I probably took this slower than the 1/2 IM a few weeks ago to make sure I didn't leave it all on the bike. Push harder on the first half. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Remember to bring water belt with Perpetuem. Run
Comments: Legs felt fine coming out of T2. My nutrition was good on the bike so no bonking this time on the run. Walked twice -once to hit the porta-john at mile 5 and walked up the bluff with everyone else. Other than that, I was pretty happy with this run on this course. Post race
Warm down: Got massage. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not sure about the swim - don't get sick? As for the bike, I would go out harder than I did. In this race, I could have trusted that my run would take care of itself as the temps were moderate and my nutrition was good on the bike. Live and learn to race again! Event comments: This is one of the better destination races in the midwest. Great organization, plenty of volunteers, lots of crowds lining the bike and run, and pork sandwiches for the finishers. After the race, Door County has a lot to offer the family who stays longer. Last updated: 2009-05-21 12:00 AM

(Just got back from camping so this is the first chance I had to log the race)
We came up to door County two days ahead of the race in order to watch friends race the sprint on Saturday morning and then watch two of our three children race the kids' tri Saturday afternoon. We camped for a week after the race. Lots of fun.
Ate 2 bagels with peanut butter with and water three hours before on the morning of the race.
The air was 42 degrees when we woke up and we remembered the heavy chop that the sprint racers dealt with yesterday. Drove to the race start with warm coffee - that helped. Got to the water and saw that the chop and wind from the day before were gone. Although it was cool, the sun felt great during warm up
Biked for 15 minutes.
Swam 300 meters.
