Swim
Comments: Had a rough start and mostly gave up on freestyle until I got to the half way point. Then did a lot more freestyle, but unfortunately with only two strokes per breath. I've got a LOT of work to do on the swim. Water temperature felt just right. What would you do differently?: More open-water swims for practice. Try to figure out how not to freak out in the beginning. Get a wetsuit. Transition 1
Comments: Had a little trouble getting on shoes and socks without tipping over. Had a little banana and water. Ran bike through transition. What would you do differently?: Think about not wearing socks. Bike
Comments: Went fine. Started off a little fast. But I knew the course and was able to save up enough energy for the big hills after mile 4. What would you do differently?: Get a road bike. Pass more people when I feel I could. Push it harder. Transition 2
Comments: Ran bike in, but legs felt oh so rubbery. Oops, totally messed up pinning my number to my race skirt. What would you do differently?: Don't pin my number to the race skirt so that the front and back are pinned together. I can't get into the skirt that way. Maybe walk a little more in transition rather than running the bike in. Run
Comments: Legs felt not so great at the beginning, but .75 miles in started feeling ok. But then by mile 1.5, my left foot went completely numb. I felt so lopsided. Otherwise felt really comfortable. What would you do differently?: Make sure the timing chip strap isn't so tight that my foot goes numb. Post race
Warm down: Walking, drinking water, eating half a bagel, stretching right after, then yoga at home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not having my Garmin. Not having such a heavy bike. Not having a wetsuit. Just wanted to finish and have a good time and not push it too hard. Cereal and chai. Next time I need to make sure my Garmin is working before I leave the house.
A little stretching.
