Overall Rank = 131/173

Age Group Rank = 14/16
Pre-race routine:

Loaded car, decided to not take a shower since I was just gonna get lake stink anyway, stopped to get an Egg McMuffin-type breakfast sandwich and a Diet Coke on the way. Pretty casual. Only had to wake up at 6:15 a.m., too, because the race was just 45 minutes away. Me likey!
Event warmup:

Nada. Walked bike to transition about 1/4 mile and then walked about 1/4 mile to the lake to check out the enemy. That was it, though.
Swim
  • 17m 35s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

The water kinda stunk and there was attacking seaweed and I can't steer yet, but I was pleasantly surprised (STUNNED more like!) with my swim. The first 100 or so I was just cruising. It's fun to swim in a wetsuit because I'm just so much faster, love it! This was a hand-me-down suit from a friend, too, so being free made it all the better! Now I just have to lose another 10-20 pounds to fit into it properly.
What would you do differently?:

Sight better, way better. The buoys were set up in a triangle. I did more of a circle. It's a waste of time and energy - duh!

I'd also swim more, swim more, swim more and swim some more. I've just got to improve!
Transition 1
  • 02m 58s
Comments:

A bit slow of a transition. I probably need to think about not wearing socks and to start using my cycling shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Hurry up.
Bike
  • 43m 46s
  • 13.2 miles
  • 18.10 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought I did good - and I did for me - but people were flying by me like I was pedaling through molasses. I actually ended up doing better in the swim compared to the rest of the field than cycling, and that really shocks me.
What would you do differently?:

I wouldn't have gone any harder, because I needed to leave some juice in the tank.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

OK, only had to drop off bike, take swig of water, get rid of helmet and go, go, go!
Run
  • 34m 30s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Man, I am s-------l-----o------w! I passed one dude, and he'll probably have to undergo therapy now knowing that. But I got passed and passed and passed by a ton of runners. There were some non-moving objects that whizzed by me. But I kept going, churning away and didn't stop, so I'll consider that a success!
What would you do differently?:

I need to hit the road more and become a sub-10-minute-mile runner. Pronto! But for me, this was actually a decent run, believe it or not!
Post race
Warm down:

Glugged down water and chocolate milk, snarfed down some orange slices like I was a 7-year-old soccer player, ate some bananas and bagels, visited with a few friends and then skeedaddled to go clean my house/mow the yard to get ready for our son's baby blessing and family gathering Sunday.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being 40-50 pounds overweight, not training hard enough or long enough, being slow, not having as nice of a bike as some people, being short, having chunky legs, a big gut and butt....and that's just the beginning!

Event comments:

Fun race, close to home, really hope they do it again next year! I'd love to beat my time by about 10 or so minutes next year.
