Total Time = 07m 50s
Overall Rank = 277/426
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 15/29
Pre-race routine:

Ate egg, cheese and ham muffin, drove up to race
Event warmup:

Rode bike from parking lot to transition, about 2 miles
Swim
  • 19m 12s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a minute slower than my time last year and I'm 100 percent certain I'm a faster swimmer now, so the course had to be longer than advertised. When I saw the time, I was really, really bummed out.
Transition 1
  • 03m 29s
Comments:

Part of this time included a couple hundred yard run from the lake to my area, which was far, far away!
Bike
  • 42m 52s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 17.40 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt really good on the bike. Had to get off for a second to see if my tire was going flat - it wasn't but it looked like it might've been. I guess I've just got to get more time in the saddle, because my time wasn't all that much faster than last year's race (only 45 seconds better, and I stopped twice last year). Strange because I swear I'm a faster cyclist nowadays, too.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Run
  • 34m 28s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I was really sluggish the first mile, but picked up the pace a bit for the second mile and then really did well the final mile or so because I was trying to get my overall time under 1:40. That didn't happen, but pushing it helped me stay ahead of a guy in my Clydesdale division and I felt pretty good about the run even though I'm super slow still. I was 1:45 quicker than last year, though!
Post race
Warm down:

Ate fruit, a cookie and got a great massage! Love those free massages!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Gaining weight the past couple of months has certainly hindered my progress. Not training hardly at all lately hasn't helped, either.

Event comments:

I certainly have improved since last year - my time was three minutes faster and was likely even more than that if you take in the longer swim. But I was hoping for a significant improvement, say, in the 10-minute category. Maybe next year. NO! Definitely next year I will improve by leaps and bounds when I do this race - one of my favorites - and finish under 1:30.
