Swim
Comments: It's a pool swim, so it's always bunchy and there are problems passing people. I knew that might be an issue. I passed two people in the first 200 meters and then got stuck behind a pack of three that wouldn't let people pass. So, I decided to just draft off them and rest. It was probably slower, but I wasn't very tired when I got out of the pool. What would you do differently?: Not much swimming this year, so that certainly didn't help my time. Could have been more aggressive with the passing, but I'm ok with it. Transition 1
Comments: I had the fastest T1 in my division and 33rd fastest overall. Went well. I just stepped into my tri shoes, tightened them, got the helmet and sunglasses on and ran out. What would you do differently?: Couldn't do much differently. Long run from the swim exit to my rack. It was a little crowded around my rack, so I had to avoid people while running. Bike
Comments: I had a hard time getting into my cleats coming out of transition. Of course, my husband was there to take pictures. Great. This course had lots of rolling hills, tight corners, and hills after corners. It made for a really interesting course. I struggled a little on a few hills, but definitely made up for it on the downhills. There were a few where I was going over 26 mph for several minutes, so that made me feel good. I passed a lot of people on the bike, which also made me happy. But, I knew they'd probably pass me again on the run. What would you do differently?: Drink a little more. Work on hills. Transition 2
Comments: Had a hard time getting my Zoot shoes on. For some reason, I decided I didn't want to put on socks - my feet were still pretty wet. That was a bad decision. What would you do differently?: Put on socks. Even though it would have added time. I would have been much happier on the run. Run
Comments: And here's where my race fell apart. :( I was doing well up until this point. I was running down the first hill and not feeling great, but like I could keep running even if it was slow. Then, I got to the first uphill and my left quad/hamstring/ITB started cramping. Not so much fun. I walked up the hills and tried to run it out. Didn't help too much. Had to walk a lot. Tried to run as much as I could, especially on the downhills and the flats. About halfway through, I had a lot of pain on the arches of both feet, which I knew was from not wearing socks. Wasn't fast and wasn't what I wanted to do, but I made it through. I had Andy, Marilyn (meherczeg), and her boyfriend yelling for me at the end. That was pretty cool. What would you do differently?: Wear socks. Don't run 7 miles the day before. Post race
Warm down: Took off my shoes right away. Stood in the misting tent. Then took a shower and waited for the world's longest awards ceremony. Went out to breakfast afterwards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Tired Event comments: The course was fun, but challenging. Last updated: 2009-05-22 12:00 AM

Up at 5:00. Got dressed. Put the bike on the car. Andy drove so I could eat a banana on the way to the race.
None. So long between when the race started and my swim start that I decided it wasn't worth it to warm up.
