Swim
Comments: TONs of chop our there. Was in the 2nd to last wave, so that allowed for a nice storm to blow in and make things a bit rough. A lot of swimmers were getting pulled out of the water by jet skis, so that also contributed to the challenge. Overall I was okay with my swim. I sighted really well, swam straight, rounded all buoys perfectly, etc. Wasn't able to draft too much, was either swimming by people or getting passed. My breathing was fine, RPE was probably 3-4, so I could have pushed it more, but just got in a groove. What would you do differently?: Maybe push is harder. I'm rating this as a below-average swim b/c of my time, as I was shooting for a sub-40. The weather contributed a lot to that, but I held back (maybe too much??). Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit strippers were great; really helped. Took way too long to get all my stuff on, and the fact that we weren't allowed to have any gear on the ground also slowed things down. What would you do differently?: Wear HR strap under wetsuit and put on Garmin as I'm riding... Bike
Comments: Wow. Well, this was my 2nd HIM, so I wanted to make sure I had enough for the run (as I didn't for my 1st HIM). I held back quite a bit on the bike (again, too much!) and that--coupled with the weather, killed my time. Was 26 minutes slower than my first HIM ride. Bummer. The weather was a major challenge. Began raining on me at about mile 5 and never really stopped. Was soaking wet the whole time, and also stupidly forgot/lost my glasses, so was blind on the downhills. The course was pretty easy--some small hills here and there. Would have been way fast with dry weather. The gusts were really challenging at some points, but c'est la vie. What would you do differently?: Ride faster! Not forget sun glasses... Transition 2
Comments: Bad T2--really had to pee, and had to wait for port a potty. Cost me 3+ minutes. What would you do differently?: Not stop to use the port a potty? Run
Comments: Felt great off the bike. Ran the first few miles in sub-10 minute splits, which was my goal. Gradually slowed down, which was a bummer. General running fitness really isn't there yet. Still, never stopped. What would you do differently?: Train faster, take in more nutrition. Post race
Event comments: GREAT race, despite the crappy weather. Really, was the most challenging ride and run I've been on, ever, due to the weather. Was wet to the bone from about 5 miles into the ride until I ran up the shoot. Still, a GREAT race. Loved Boise--amazing support team there, very well-organized. Will definitely do this race again next year. Last updated: 2009-05-22 12:00 AM

Got there way early...bike setup, the normal. Was in the 12th of 13 waves, which made the waiting hard.
