Pre-race routine:

Cheerios, skim milk when I woke up. G2 in the car and clif bar and water 40 minutes before start.
Event warmup:

Jog in the grass
Swim

  • / 100 meters
Comments:

Switched to a du because of river conditions.

I stayed in the back of my wave and did 1.5 miles in 16:46, about 11.1 min miles. Tried to take it really easy because I knew I had to run again after the bike.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, felt comfortable the whole way
Transition 1
  • 04m 8s
Comments:

There was a huge distance between the timing mat and the transition area, so I think this added at least 30 seconds, if not more.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, although it felt like forever getting my bike shoes on!

Comments:

I knew I would take it easy because I haven't trained very hard this spring and summer.

My first lap was uneventful, although there was a crash and an ambulance was blocking the road on the downhill over the bridge. I felt good and warm at the turn around.

Halfway through second lap, lightning and thunder really started up and I got fairly scared of being struck. Someone coming out on their second loop said they were calling the race, and I really put the pedal down so I could finish up and get off the course. It was torrential rains, I could barely see and the water was getting high on the roads.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, except ride more
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Because the race was called, I didn't do T2 or the last run leg.

Post race
Warm down:

Run to grab my bike and pack up my sopping wet gear. Who knew a beach towel would weigh like 30 pounds if it were SOAKING WET!

It was a long slow hike in the pouring rain back to my car. I did remember to return my chip and I got a finishers medal, but didn't stop to get food.

It had rained so hard that the water was ankle deep or higher in the grass

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Significantly less training than last year. I forgive myself though.

Event comments:

The weather was a huge challenge, but the organizers did their best. Thanks!
