Swim
Comments: The swim was really easy. I never felt like I was taxing myself. I know I could have gone a lot faster. I wish I could have found some good feet to draft off. It was a fairly physical swim, but honestly I kind of enjoy the contact. I think you just have to trust that your wetsuit will keep you floating and you can be as aggresive as you want. What would you do differently?: I think I could have gone quite a bit faster. I should have pushed harder from the beginning. Transition 1
Comments: I think my transition was around 1:30 but the results aren't up so I'm not sure. I know I screwed up when I got outside transition and tried to start pedaling with my feet on shoes. It's a slight uphill to start out and I didn't get my left foot on top of my shoe in time and it hit ground and came unclipped. I had to stop and put my shoe on get clipped in. What would you do differently?: Put my shoes on in transition. Bike
Comments: I felt great on the bike. I only got passed 2 times and I ended up passing one of the people back on the way into town. I felt like I was passing the whole time. I was going pretty hard on the way out and battling the head wind but my bike comp. said I was averaging about 20 mph on the way out. I was surprised because I knew I would only go faster on the way into town. I did get a little mad as I watched an older guy draft for the entire 12 miles back into town. Normally it's not a big deal because people drift into and out of the drafting zone throughout a ride, but this guy stayed right on the guys wheel in front of him and didn't really work at all. It was really windy too so I felt like it was a huge advantage. What would you do differently?: nothing. I feel like I paced it pretty good. Although my bike said it was over 25 miles. Transition 2
Comments: Started out having to run barefoot through gravel. It hurt! Tried to rack my back backwards, then I couldn't figure out my socks and shoes for a minute. I wish I would have had my lock laces on. What would you do differently?: Use lock laces. Run
Comments: I had a good run. I now feel like this is my strongest event. I was passing people from the beginning, and just trying to make up as much ground as I could. I wasn't real fond of the gravel trail but it turned to be okay. What would you do differently?: Run harder. Post race
Warm down: eat some lunch. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I somewhat held myself back in the swim. I didn't feel bad at the end at all. I was sort of using this as a practice for Ironman so I should be satisfied with my effort. Event comments: I felt like this was a really fun race with some fast guys! Woke up early in my hotel in Milton-Freewater. I slept like crap but I still didn't feel too tired with all the pre race excitement. This was first real tri without a downstream swim so I was a little nervous. I woke up about 6, took a shower and ate a bagel with peanut butter, banana, and boost. Got to the race site and lucked out as someone left a parking spot right by transition when i pulled up. I got everything set up and put my wetsuit on. I felt pretty ready to go.
Just got in the water 5 minutes early and swam about 100 yds. I felt great.
