Swim
Comments: Worried for days about the water temp! I don't do wetsuit(yet). It was chilly but not breath-taking/finger-numbing. I was in a pool last week that was just a little colder. I started to the left of the field and just pulled towards the front. Then aimed for the 1st buoy. Didn't care about breathing -- I just power-stroked. Went wide at the top of the triangle as I was catching the 1st wave before the first mark and the bulk of the wave across the top. Turning towards finish, sun rose and couldn't see anything on shore. Followed the swimmers I could see in front of me and hoped they knew where they were going. 75 yds to go I could see the finish and had to adjust because was off to the right. All in all not a bad swim -- just average. What would you do differently?: Breath every 4. Transition 1
Comments: I was slow in transition. Didn't speed through the shoes-on, shirt-on. Took a little too long to dry off and get grass & mud off my feet. Bike
Comments: I did this on a hardtail mtn bike. Need I say more? I actually passed some road bikes on East Campground hill. Of course everybody passes me everywhere else. I did hit a top speed of 40 mph on one of the downhills. That balances the 4 mph I was doing on the uphill on Campground. What would you do differently?: Training. Road Bike. 49 out of 52 on the bike means I'm giving up alot of time. Not really competing against others but I am sure that even at these speeds I'm losing alot of energy trying to pedal a mtn bike around the course. Could be quicker here and have stronger legs for the run with a bike more suited to the road. Transition 2
Comments: Again no rush. My legs were starting to cramp as soon as I dismounted the bike. What would you do differently?: 51 out of 52 on both transitions!!! Not very impressive. I knew I was taking my time but geez! I try to be deliberate as I go through the Ts -- especially T-1 -- but I can pick it up. This was just a slow day. Run
Comments: My legs were really cramping after the bike and I was afraid they'd lock-up on me. It came & went & came again and I just kept plugging along. On the 1st lap on the bigger of the hills a 57 yr old gent went past me like I was standing still! My hat off to him!! Not my best effort but I finished. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and walked around. Enjoyed some of the refreshments offered and waited for the results. What limited your ability to perform faster: The past 5 weeks family matters have demanded that I trade training time for family time. Before my last tri on 8-16 I was training 15 hours a week. My last 3 weeks have been like 5, 7, 6. Very little time in the saddle. Few runs. And to add to it, my nutrition and sleep have suffered too. I went into this race looking at it as just a workout and to just gut it out and finish. I feel guilty saying that because I don't want to belittle or diminish the accomplishments of other athletes I finished in front of. The bottom line is that I did not want to not participate but I was not prepared to participate the way I'd have liked to have been. Event comments: Very laid-back nicely run race. Proceeds go to charity. Also, every participant has a chance to win some really good prizes -- top prize was a Fuji Tri Bike!! Swag bag was nice and the shirt was very nice. I plan to do this again and probably one of the other races in their series next year. Pinchot is a nice location, too. Last updated: 2009-05-26 12:00 AM

Cliff Bar and coffee for breakfast. Then a gel and some water. Drove to Pinchot (about 30 mins from home). Got there and got into transition just it opened and got an end slot.
Walked around. Stretched a little. Tried not to obsess about the water temp and my lack of training.
