![]() Swim
Comments: I am ranking my swim at average because I don't like how slow I am. I had a pretty good and very consistant swim. Wasn't tired after the first 100. Swam steadily the whole way. Never felt overexerted or out of breath. What would you do differently?: maybe get in the water and do a lap or two before starting. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: REALLY SLOW transition. Walked most of the way from pool to bike to rest. I don't change clothes. Did put on socks and shoes and dry feet. Then put on heart monitor, gloves, helmet, drink a bit. How does that add up to 5 minutes!!! AveHR 161 What would you do differently?: Run from pool to transition. Figure out why I'm so slow! ![]() Bike
Comments: Felt really slow. 16mph average. Slower than MNF. What would you do differently?: need to work out more on the bike! I am SO BAD on turns and corners, scaedy cat! I loose so much speed! Need to practice trusting my bike and learning how slow I really NEED to be going to turn. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Ride in my running shoes so this transition faster. I still have trouble getting my jogging bra on. This time pulled off my helmet and gloves and then pulled the bra over shoulders, grabbed a last drink of gatorade and then grabbed my singlet and started running while pulling bra on! Took me until past most spectators before it was all the way on and the singlet was in place. Was worried that I would get in trouble for not having my race number in place before leaving transition area but don't think they cared. AveHR 160 What would you do differently?: still want to get bike shoes but that will have to wait until next season i guess. ![]() Run
Comments: First mile is the worst! My calfs felt like the were going to rip themselves out the back of my legs! Top of my foot really hurt. Thought I was going really slowly so I was a bit surprised at the 10:50 time. Second mile legs loosened up but foot still hurt. Third mile was the best and once I realized I was going to be able to get under 34 min I pushed it a bit. Want to see what I would run a 5k in without the swim and bike first. What would you do differently?: Remember that it will get better after the first mile! :-) ![]() Post race
Warm down: Walked until HR below 140. Ate my first oranges in 3 years! man do I miss those. Still slightly allergic. Oh well. Not going to stop me anymore! Drank some powerade. Did a little strethcing while waiting for awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: my heart? my lungs? Still somewhat deconditioned? I am really frustrated with what I consider my lack of speed and progress. But I try to keep reminding myself that I'm only 2 years out of chemo/radiation and that I haven't run in 20 years. Give myself a break I guess! Event comments: Very organized. Got 260 racers into the pool all on time! Good volunteers, could have used some bread but that's really the only thing I can complain about! Nice Job. I had a lot of fun. And our Team In Training group won 4 awards! Someday, I will be one of them! Last updated: 2005-08-08 12:00 AM

Up at 5am, drank a protein drink at 5:15am, got dressed and left for the race at 5:45. Arrived at a little after 6am for a 7:35am start. Was glad to have that much time as my system was a little upset. Ate a banana w/peanut butter at around 6:30, was very glad to have that extra snack.
Lot's of trips to the ladies. Did some sun salutations. Didn't get in the water, spent most of the time cheering on my teammates that started before me.
