Pre-race routine:

W0ke up at 5:10am, quickly ate a cliff bar and packed, had half a bagel with peanut butter a little bit later. Repacked the wetsuit, (water was too warm for them). Set up the bike
Event warmup:

Not much, listened to some music on the ipod and walked around
Swim
  • 44m 45s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

I can't swim in a straight line. I was all over the place the whole time. Overall the swim was good, but I think I would have been a lot faster if I wasn't so off track the whole time.
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot, swim straight
Transition 1
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Took my time. Put on gloves, helmet and sunglasses. Slipped the shoes on and sprayed on some sunscreen, (thank god!!).
What would you do differently?:

nothing

Comments:

Great bike. Really focused on riding at my own pace, though I was getting passed a lot at first. Held a good mph ave. I had adjused my aerobars last night and didn't tighten them enough, so they were moving around the whole time, which was not good. Took a gel every 45 minutes, switching the last gel for sportbeans. Drank a lot of water, and 1 bottle of gatorade. Felt really good but I can tell I'm going to need to start doing a lot longer rides for Lou. It was HOT. Definatly in the upper 90s but I really didn't have much of a problem with it.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure my aerobars are tight, other than that not much.
Transition 2
  • 03m 13s
Comments:

Really wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything here. Put on socks and more sunscreen.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 2h 27m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Wow it was so hot at this point. I felt great for the first 6 miles, drank gatorade at every aid station and had a gel every 30 min. Talked to a couple people who had done IM Lou before and that was cool. The 2nd 6 miles was rougher, the last 3 were really hard. I wanted to finish under 6:45 so I kept moving. I could have walked and felt fine but I really wanted a good finishing time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Jumped in the lake, talked to my parents and had some pizza.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat, but I felt really good and wouldn't have changed a thing.

Event comments:

Great race! Hotter than blazes though. There was a 25% DNF out of 180 participants. My race went perfectly, I still can't get over how well it went. Confidence booster for IM Lou!!
