![]() Swim
Comments: Had a good start, and felt good 2/3 of the way through, but then started getting tired and had trouble swimming straight. What would you do differently?: Need to work on overall fitness and consistancy. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: The run from the water to transition was long and rocky. Putting on sandals near the water took too long, but was worth it when I ran past a few others on the way. There were no official splits for the transition, but according to my watch, it took 5:02. No idea if that is good or bad compared to the field, but it felt OK. ![]() Bike
Comments: The roads were wet, but only of the downhills had a turn at the end that could have been dangerous. I passed a few people on the bike and felt strong the whole way. What would you do differently?: I should have made myself familiar with the course before hand. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: 1:17 by my watch. Getting there early and picking the first spot by the entrance makes it easy. I had trouble seeing where I was running due to my glasses being all covered with rain. The grass was slippery with bike shoes on and I almost fell. ![]() Run
Comments: Ouch. Running down the hills with wet shoes hurt. I traded leads with another guy a couple of time during the run and was passed by a really fast guy. After the third mile, my boys started to hurt. I don't know what the cause was, but after a while each step was like getting punched. They had only a few drink stations, but it was drizzling or raining the entire run, so hydration was not an issue. ![]() Post race
Event comments: The lack of chip timing was disconcerting, but it was run well. The course was challenging and I'll probably do it again next year. Last updated: 2005-08-08 12:00 AM

Got up at 4:45, left at 5:00. Got a coffee, ate a bagel on the way and arrived at the race site at ten past six, the second competitor to get there. Signed in, walked the quarter mile from transition to the water, set up my area, found and used the bathroom and waited for the race to start. Thought is was scheduled for 7:30, but it was actually eight and they were fifteen minutes late.
