Pre-race routine:

Got there very early as my wife was volunteering it transition. Set up transition, hit the prerace meeting (0730), and then just sat around, ate some fruit about 45min before my heat, and did some light stretching and a bit of a warmup.
Event warmup:

Light running.
Swim
  • 13m 9s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was ok, comfortable pace.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Good T1, passed one of the people in transition that was 1 lap ahead of me in the pool.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 35m 37s
  • 20 kms
  • 33.69 km/hr
Comments:

Rode hard, winds pushed us around. Rode agressively as this was a short race, even though the speed really doesn't show that.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Things went south here. Came up to the line to hot, braked to late, and when I came off of the bike, it felt like I landed on a rock with my heel. I then tried to de-accelerate hard and make the turn into transition, my one shoe came uncliped from the pedal, so I had to stop, get the shoe, pick my bike and head into T2. It hurt quite a bit going into T2, but like a stubbron dumbass, I kept going.
What would you do differently?:

be less agressive coming to the line.
stop when it hurts.
Run
  • 22m 26s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 29s  min/km
Comments:

The first 1k really sucked. It felt like I was running with a dime sized rock in my left shoe right under my heel. I was really thinking hard about DNFing, but after about 1.5k, it actually felt ok. So on I went....
What would you do differently?:

STOP WHEN IT HURTS!
Post race
Warm down:

As soon as I got across the finish, my ankle started to throb. I could actually feel it swelling. I then got some ice, put it on right away, and sat down because it was really starting to hurt.
Not a very good cooldown....

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Getting hurt.

Event comments:

Ended up with a partially seperated achillies tendon. And the end of my race season.
Should have stopped......
