Pre-race routine:

Sausage biscuit and a cup of coffee on the drive up. Left a little late so didn't have time to set up very well.
Event warmup:

Jogged a half mile and swam maybe 250 yards. I use the swimming as my warmup but I would have liked to have had a little more time.
Swim
  • 26m 20s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a little problem with hyperventilating the first 200 yards or so due the cold water. Probably need to practice open water swims a little more. I can run like a deer but unfortunetly I swim like one too.
What would you do differently?:

Practice in open water more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 57s
Comments:

Boy did this part suck! Couldn't get the wetsuit off and then I couldn't get my shirt on. I have been training well for everything except transitions.
What would you do differently?:

Cut the wetsuit down a little so it comes off my ankles and wear a shirt underneath.
Bike
  • 1h 08m 8s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.88 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm slowly improving as a cyclist but this still seems extremely difficult to me. For some reason I pass people going up hills but can't maintain a hard pace on the flat sections. I started doing triathlons last year and the speed that everyone is riding is very impressive.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

This section went well especially compared to T1.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 39m 51s
  • 6.5 miles
  • 06m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run although the time was a little slow. The first lap had a lot of runners on narrow trails so I did tons of weaving in and out. I would think this course would be pretty miserable on a rainy day but with the good weather it was great.
What would you do differently?:

May have gone out a little hard. First mile was under 6 and I would have been better off really pushing the second lap since there were less runners to weave around at that point.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First transition hurt some but a good race overall.

Event comments:

I had a great time doing this race. Definitely coming back next year.
