Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4am and got dressed. Made a pot of coffee, PB&J toast and had a banana. Noticed Craig was not moving yet (a few too many shots the night before with Bob23) and I realized we had to get out the door by 4:30. As you all know Craig LOVES the bullhorn and from the comments that you all make you love it too. Well..I have to live with Craig and the bullhorn. Right after he bought it from ebay he thought it would be really funny to wake me up one morning with it. I told him paybacks are hell. So I went to the garage...fired that sucker up and told him to get his ass out of bed and that I had a race to get to. I so enjoyed that moment...;) He on the other hand was pissed at me most of the day. Told him to get over it....;) So then we waited for his friend Matt to show up so he could ride with us and experience the excitement of triathlons. We finally got on the road by about 4:45.
Event warmup:

Met up with many donks before the race..great to see everyone. Set up transition and headed to the water to cheer on the early waves. I of course was in the last wave (12) again. I waited until wave 10 went in to warm up and get a few strokes in. I thought the water was a comfortable temp, but it was the wind that was friggen cold when you got out.
Swim
  • 09m 22s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was the first race that I actually started out front. I usually shy away and go way toward that back. I am thinking from now on I will stay to the back. Got knocked around quite a bit until I got to the first buoy. Then set my sites on DeannaS's swim cap, which was very visable. Not sure if she noticed, but I pretty much drafted off of her until the end. Saw Craig and Matt with the bullhorn yelling at me the moment I got out of the water..telling me to go faster. As much as I hate that thing...he did make me smile.

Anyway...I did improve from last year so that made me happy. But I am still not where I want to be.
What would you do differently?:

Stay toward the back.
Transition 1
  • 02m 32s
Comments:

Suckage!! I could not get my wetsuit off of my friggen big ass feet. Also, very hard to put on cloths when you are soaking wet.
What would you do differently?:

nothing..it was the cold, rainy weather that made me put on extra cloths.
Bike
  • 51m 12s
  • 15.8 miles
  • 18.52 mile/hr
Comments:

This was an ok ride for me. I have gotten a lot of biking in recently and really thought I could have done better. But sometimes the weather just doesn't cooperate. I was pushing myself to catch Deanna and be able to go out with her on the run. I was about 2 min behind her at transition. Slippery roads and pouring rain I think limited me a bit from going all out.
What would you do differently?:

not much
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Suckage again!! Cold, wet hands limited me from getting my helmet unclipped and my shoes tied.
What would you do differently?:

nothing...weather was a factor.
Run
  • 26m 46s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I was happy with this run. My feet were frozen the first mile..then got better as I warmed up. Ran with Jenndocmartin for most of the run...then picked up the pace for a bit and got ahead of her toward the end. As we rounded the last corner and went down the hill she caught up to me again and we ended up sprinting to the end for photo finish...which is what I seem to be good at in Lake Mills. Last year it was Deanna beating me by 2 seconds. This year it was Jenn beating me by 2 seconds. DeannaS was nice enough to come back and cheer us in to the finish (sorry Deanna I was pushing it to my limit...;) I could not go any faster.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Ate some oranges and bananas...chatted with Terri(Joe Runner), Tracy and others for a bit then headed home for a hot shower.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cold and rainy weather.

Event comments:

Thank you to Craig and Matt for being there for me. You guys are the best. And thank you to all the donks that just came to cheer us on. (Tracy, Terri(and kids) Great meeting up with everyone! I always love this race.
