Swim
Comments: My first non wetsuit race in open water. From other comments I've read it's suggested that the swim course was a bit long. I kind of agree since my pace was pretty slow, but that could be due to no wetsuit or just not resting enough in the days leading up. What would you do differently?: Swim more duh. Transition 1
Comments: Really short transition area so that was nice. Pretty simple in and out onto the wet bike course. What would you do differently?: Run faster into transition? Bike
Comments: Pretty simple bike course could have pushed a little harder maybe but doubt it would have made my run any better. Was raining the whole time out there so I got back into transition pretty soaked but happy to average over 20mph. What would you do differently?: Not drink so much in the days leading up to the race my legs were not even 90% before I hopped in the water. Transition 2
Comments: Quick and easy no problems with getting things off and back on. What would you do differently?: Different shoes. Run
Comments: Felt pretty good starting out on the run, thought I might have a possiblity of doing some sub 8:30 min miles. Unfortunately my legs were still sore from being out and about for three days straight and drinking too much and not recovering. Oh and on top of that I ran in shoes that I haven't ran in for half a year and didn't wear socks...so I got to rock some awesome blisters on the back of my heels for the last mile or so which was kinda painful and definitely affected the pace. What would you do differently?: Not wear shoes that I haven't ran in for half a year and not drink so much leading up to a race. Post race
Warm down: Drank some water gatorade and ate some pizza. What limited your ability to perform faster: Drank too much alcohol the days leading up to the race (seeing freinds I hadn't seen for a while) ooo and the blisters on the back of my feet at the end of the run. Event comments: Pretty well organized. Started maybe 10 minutes late but that was due to weather. Not much to do after the race other than sit there and watch the olympic racers head out on their second bike loop/run start. It would have been nice if the sprint and olympic transitions were separate so sprint racers didn't have to wait for 2 hrs to get their bikes out of transition after the race. Woke up around 5:15 for a 7:00am race start. Ate a cliff bar and banana and had some water.
Jogged a little bit up and down the run course start and then stretched out the arms before the swim start. (Does the more than usual alcohol consumption leading up to the race count as warm up?)
