Swim
Comments: Swimmers were stagger started every 30 seconds. I had no issue running into the person ahead of me or the person behind me catching me. What would you do differently?: I need to work on my endurance swimming and pacing. The adrenaline of the race made me start swimming too fast and I was out of gas for the last 100m. Not being a swimmer by trade, this is something I really need to continue to work on. I also need to build to be able to do the 400m with only the front crawl and not need to use the breast stroke to rest. Transition 1
Comments: This being my first transition I wish I had actually practiced it. It felt like a very long time and it was very cold. Very short distance from pool to transition area made this a very smooth transition. What would you do differently?: Rehearse Transitions! Just like I practice doing each event I need to practice doing transitions as well. Having a second towel (one to sit on and one to dry with) would have been helpful. I also need to practice clipping in my bike shoes for a faster start. Bike
What would you do differently?: Definitely need to train more hills. I didn't realize the course would be straight up and straight down. It made for a very tough ride. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: Need to make the transition more fluid. Again, practice will help here. Needs to be muscle memory rather than thinking about what to do. Run
What would you do differently?: I would carry my extra water bottle with me so that I am not dependent on the water points to take a drink. Post race
Warm down: I was able to cool down and stretch. They had Einstein bagels and water/gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to practice transitions and hit the hills on the bike. Event comments: This was my first triathlon and I thought it was run extremely well. I would consider looking at other options for the bike course. Last updated: 2009-05-31 12:00 AM

I woke up 3 hours early for the 2hr drive from Colorado Springs to Golden. A long drive added with 2 accidents (black ice) en route slowing traffic to get there. Next time I would consider staying in Golden the night before.
This was my first triathlon so I was mainly going off of advice from my brother-in-law on how to set up and transition. I gained a little knowledge by watching some of the veteran triathletes setup their transition areas.
The pool was available to do some swimming to warm up.
