Swim
Comments: Swim went well. However the time stop for the swim did not catch until about 25m outside the pool. What would you do differently?: Need to continue to condition to be able to do the entire swim with front crawl stroke. I had to do about 50m breast stroke as a rest. Swimming is still my weakest event. Transition 1
Comments: There was a pretty long run from the pool to the transition area. This added to the long transition time. Transition was a lot smoother because I swam in my bike shorts. All I had to do was put on my shirt and socks/shoes. What would you do differently?: I need to up my itertions of transition practice so that it is muscle memory and sequence. Although the warmer weather made the transition a lot smoother. Bike
Comments: Of the three triathlons I have run this was by far the easiest bike course I have done. With only slight inclines and declines I was able to average over 20mph which is a huge feat for me. What would you do differently?: Need to find a way to drink without having to slow down as much. I may consider buying a set of racing bars for the handle bars that I can put a water bottle on. Transition 2
Comments: Everything went extremely well. My best T2 yet. However the transition area was littered with spectators, to include a kid sanding right at my transition area. I had to yell at him to get him to move (yah, I'm a jerk!). I also had to dodge a woman and child on my way to the transition area. Running in the same equipment I biked in made for an easy transition. What would you do differently?: I need to work on jumping off the bike and picking up a run. I came to a full and complete stop. I forgot to bring my extra water bottle with me and was craving water on the long hot run (only one water point at the turn around). Bring my extra bottle with me for the run. Run
Comments: With the 0930 start I was hitting the run around 1040 which proved to be a hot part of the day. The earlier starters had a definite advantage. What would you do differently?: Try to get an earlier start time. Bring my water bottle with me. Post race
Warm down: Food, drinks and stretch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Starting later in the day. If I could have anticipated a 0930 start instead of a 0730 start I would have planned differently. Need to hydrate better throughout the race. Event comments: Great race for $12, but you can tell the difference between a USAT sanctioned race and one that is not. Last updated: 2009-05-31 12:00 AM

Woke-up two hours before the race start and drove to Carson. Since it was 2 hours from start time I did not eat anything and just drank water. Sign up was a bit disorganized and the transition area was very crowded. Some people had to put bike on ground.
My warmp-up was waiting 2 hours for my heat (heat 10 of 11) to start. They started the slower swimmers first ending with those people who anticipated faster times. While waiting the temperature went up and the wind picked up. Had I known I would start around 0930 (instead fo 0730) I would have eaten something before the race. Nothing was posted about the swim start sequence in the flyer and there was no website. I should have called ahead.
