Age Group Rank = 2/16
Pre-race routine:

Got to transition around 6:00, still didn't get the end of the rack!
Event warmup:

5' bike warm-up on my MTB with trainer. Jogging back and forth to car. Swam some. Left my key in transition, so I couldn't go back to get my caffeine/honey mate. It's all good.
Swim
  • 10m 14s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

Never felt in a groove. Never really drafted. I felt unsettled at times and had to calm down once. I'm happy overall, but I can do a bit better.
What would you do differently?:

Get in the pool more often, although it's always tough in April and May
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Without previous practice, I copied some fast guys in the Oly who took off their suits in the shallow water of the lake. It worked out really well. The water made it slip right over my ankles, and it was okay to stand on the suit in the sand. It made the time in T1 much less insane.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 34m 53s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 21.38 mile/hr
Comments:

My plan was to hammer away, but my hamstrings felt pretty tight, and I was worried about how that would play out on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Judging from the HR, I should have pressed harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Decent, but not speedy.
What would you do differently?:

Better layout?
Run
  • 26m 23s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran hard from the get-go and felt pretty good. I really tried to work my long stride and take advantage on the downhills. I started feeling weird after the 1 mile mark, which was a sign of pushing myslef. Mile 2 is hard, with lots of climbing and descent on the trails, but mile 1 and 3 were very strong.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I did get a run in last week on some trails and stairs, which definitely helped.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of food and HEED, a bit of jogging, lots of walking around, some stretching, got back into the lake. Didn't sit much.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My hamstrings on the bike. It probably didn't help to have run a 5k yesterday, even though I was goind slow with my daughter.

Event comments:

I love this race. The bike and run are both a challenge, which makes it fun. The run can kick your butt if you're not ready for it.
