Swim
Comments: Despite having :30 gap in front of me (missing swimmer), I eventually got stuck behind the person in front, passed her, and then she elbowed me out of the way shortly after...lost all my rythm and had to keep position. Kind of bogus...but, I'm not a good enough swimmer to complain. For me, a 'good' performance but...way too slow to be a true competitor. What would you do differently?: Continue to work at swimming better to get lined up with the sub-8:00 swimmers at the start. There seems to be decent 'technique' up until the 8:00+ (400m) swimmers...after that we are a mix of 'ok' to survival swimmers. I still beat my seed time of 9:00 so... Transition 1
Comments: No T times so that's a guess... My bike was as far from the swim as you could go...at least I was mostly dry by the time I got there! Then had to walk/run the bike all the way back past the pool in my bike shoes. First time using the Tri Suit which helps mostly with T1. What would you do differently?: Maybe learn to step into shoes already on the bike. Otherwise, just bad luck being so far away... Bike
Comments: Still learning how to really race a bike...getting better but frustrated that I can't get the average up. I do well on hills. What would you do differently?: More bike training if possible...learn the gears and positioning of the body. Transition 2
Comments: Can't do much better...most of time spent just getting to the rack and back to Run Start. I use the quick lace ups on the run shoes which are great. What would you do differently?: Next bike shoes I get will be 'easier' to run in... Run
Comments: I was actually more tired than expected going into the run - guess I really did work the bike. It's still my best 'event' so... it was OK but I really had to push myself over the final mile. My right foot started screaming. What would you do differently?: Need to keep 'upping' the fitness level, do more biking so not as wiped out entering the run. Post race
Warm down: The pain in my foot was extreme once the race was over... sure enough, later found out I have Plantar Fasciitis and am doing everything possible to rectify it now. I always grab fresh fruit and beverages, and bagles when available. What limited your ability to perform faster: Foot pain! Event comments: Not much anyone can do about it but....that long swim wait is tough. You just need to get your head around what your actual start time will be. Last updated: 2009-06-01 12:00 AM

Up at 5AM. Large Hazelnut, Sausage Egg and Cheese Bagle.... on the way. Always try to get to races at least an hour in advance which can be tough. We knew my son was going early...and I was going late.
With so many entries (supposedly 495), the swim took over 2 1/2 hours to put everyone thru. I went #349...so, it was a long wait. Mostly stretching and rode my bike onto the course for a warm up. I was able to cheer my son on (#67) as he left the pool, the bike was a loop so saw him twice and the run (finish)! Only then did I enter the warm up pool for a few laps.
