Swim
Comments: I felt really good on this swim. My right shoulder had been bothering me earlier in the week, but I was loose. I actually came in 3rd in my age group. I wore a wetsuit. I did not try to sprint too hard early on, but I kept it steady and swam 1:42 / 100m. I got out of the pool knowing that I had beaten my previous year's time, and ran to T1. Beat last year's time by 10 seconds. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 1
Comments: I have been concentrating on transitions. No drinking or eating, just get moving. It is paying off. Not bad here, but not great either. Still beat last year's time by 9 seconds. What would you do differently?: I think the wetsuit cost me about 20 - 25 seconds. But it saved me a lot of time in the swim. I have got to get out of it faster. Bike
Comments: The roads were wet, but that did not bother me. Just like Columbia 2 weeks ago, it had just rained and the roads were soaked, but rain does not bother me. I tried to push this as hard as I could. I knew the course, I treated the turns like a BMX course (ride hard into it, coast, and pedal hard coming out), I passed a bunch of people on the turns so it worked. I have really been trying to become a better cyclist, and I do feel better now. I did notice that 4 people passed me on the bike. They all had really expensive bikes and really expensive wheels. I did however, pass one of them again for good on the exact bike that I want (P2 DA with Zipps). What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: I guess that I am still average here. I need to work on this one. I need to shave a few seconds off. I do not take my shoes off while still on the bike. I feel like this takes time and that I might step on something, or get stepped on while running in bare feet. Last year's time was 2:16, so this was a big improvement. What would you do differently?: See above. Run
Comments: I have made a lot of improvements on the run. Running with Reston Runners has helped a lot. A whole lot. I had ran the course a few days before, so I knew what to expect, and I averaged less than 8 mins / mile which was another goal of mine. I was hoping to get into the 23 minute range but I still beat last year by 46 seconds. What would you do differently?: More speed work. Post race
Warm down: Water at the finish line. What limited your ability to perform faster: I was loose and I felt as fast as I could have felt today. Event comments: Great hometown Sprint race with a lot of great competition. Overall, this is probably my best performance / placing of any race that I have done. I know the competition is tough, but I wanted to beat my performance last year, and I did that by over 2 minutes. I still did not get a trophy, but I am getting close, and I do not feel bad at all about what I have accomplished in the last 3 years. Last updated: 2009-06-01 12:00 AM
