Swim
Comments: Felt great. Started easy and maintained form the entire way. I think it was a little longer than advertised as I felt I swam faster and the winners seemed like pretty slow times. What would you do differently?: Best OWS yet. Transition 1
Comments: I was in the top 10 first this transition--no wetsuit helps! What would you do differently?: Practice getting on bike with shoes already clipped in. Bike
Comments: It started up hill and felt like hills the entire time. I underestimated the size of the hills and have not trained for hills at all. I was in the lowest gear, chugging away on the two big climbs. On the second lap on the 1st big climb, my left calf cramped up. First time getting cramps on a bike. It was difficult to maintain speed and I tried to work it out as I went up hill and then down hill. I finally worked it out after about 2-3 minutes and my right calf cramped up even more intensely. This one lasted longer--4-5 minutes, but its mostly during downhill time. My second lap was much slower than the first lap (15:00 versus about 20:00). The third lap was a struggle as I didn't want to aggravate the cramped muscles again. What would you do differently?: Train on hills! Transition 2
Comments: Tried to take shoes off on bike, but didn't start in time and unclipped and rain to transition area. Grabbed a GU, changed shoes and left. What would you do differently?: Get out of shoes on bike earlier. Run
Comments: My legs were shot after the cramping from the bike. My leg muscles were really tight and cramped. Struggled up the first hills--stopped to stretch out a little. Ran the first mile, than jogged/walked the hills and aid stations on subsequent miles. I turned in a fast time for walking so much. Pretty poor run overall. What would you do differently?: Train for hills on the bike Post race
Warm down: Walked around in pain for awhile. My calves were very sore for about 2-3 days. What limited your ability to perform faster: Hill training, muscle cramping/fatigue. Event comments: Good local race. The volunteers were great. Last updated: 2009-06-02 12:00 AM

At an English muffin with Peanut Butter and a banana about 1.5 hours before race. Sipped water. Parents, Coby, Autumn and the kids came to support me.
Set up transition area. I thought I understood it...
