Swim
Comments: Breathed mostly on my right side which made me drift to the left too much. Then overcompensated and did lots of zig-zagging. Don't know if my navigation problems are due to eyesight issues or inexperience. I'm hoping just inexperience. What would you do differently?: Need to work on navigation. I did a lot of zig-zagging. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from the beach up to transition on uncomfortable blacktop. Transition went well. I got my suit off better than last time. Socks & shoes went on fine. Putting nutrition bars & emergency pump into Tri Top cost me some precious time. Waddle with bike (can't run in bike shoes!) went well. What would you do differently?: Buy bento box for nutrition bars & emergency pump. Bike
Comments: Lots of hills on this course. I did well, but hills are not my forte. I am more built for flats. However, my speed on this course was better than my speed was at Lake Terramuggus 10 days prior. Go figure. Could have pushed a little harder, but was playing it conservatively on the hills and because it was my first Olympic race. What would you do differently?: Hill repeats in training. Overall: Good (a relative term) Transition 2
Comments: Best transition of the day. Shaky legs though. What would you do differently?: Do more bricks during training Run
Comments: Legs were tired, but ran as best as I could. Stopped to walk on 2nd loop when drinking water or gatorade What would you do differently?: Learn to drink from paper cup while running. OR bring my own nutrition. The latter is probably easier for me. Post race
Warm down: Walking, drinking free Gatorade & water, minimal stretching. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough hill training or brick training. Goals for race: 1) Finish 2) Under 3 hours? 3) Have Fun. Finished, went much faster than I thought I would, and had a blast! Event comments: I'm not a hill climber on the bike. Didn't stay around for post race activities, but it looked like a blast. Amazing! I was middle of the pack for the swim and the bike, but lost ground on the run. My best placing in my age group was on the swim! What the junk?!? Last updated: 2009-06-03 12:00 AM
