Swim
Comments: really good swim, did a 800 in the pool the other day and pushed it strong and came out pretty fine, wasnt fast at all but strong. Got in the front row, and guy next to me absolutely took off so got on his heels for the first 100 or so but then i lost him in the muck and never got his heels back, at that point only 1 other person in front of me so went to draft off of him and he flipped over and started backstroking, so pulled around him and then was by myself for the last 500 yards or so, did have someone come in from the side with about 300 left and ended up pulling away from him nearer the end, coming in towards the finish didnt know i had to go around the first buoy again but people on the shore were kind enough to signal me, then it was quick sprint til my hands dug sand then up and out, had people yelling i was second out of the water so that was really cool. What would you do differently?: checked out the course a bit more in advance, kept the fast kids heels Transition 1
Comments: forgot rubber bands so didnt have the shoes on the bike to start so had to put then on in transition which ive never done before, so that was a change, but i put my aero helmet on before my tri top, which was so stupid!! so took it back off and then got the shirt on and ran out of transition, mounted good and took off, had 1 guy pass me here so i was 3rd in people aged 17-29 at that time What would you do differently?: not forget rubber bands, put my clothes on in the right order Bike
Comments: not bad for a bike, was running 3rd out of transition with both guys in sight, caught 1st guy at about 3 miles but then at about 5 miles the disc wheels and carbon fiber started going by, the eventual winner absolutely blazed past me. Knew i was running first in my age group so that kept my spirit up but i didnt really feel strong, have lost alot of my cycle fitness in the past month, my sporatic rides on the trainer hasnt been enough training for me, ended up having probably 4 guys pass me on the bike What would you do differently?: work on the engine more, but other than that i rode it pretty clean Transition 2
Comments: good transition, passed 1 guy coming in who dismounted really early with shoes on and was running his bike to the line, had people with slow down signs out pretty far from dismount but i kept my speed right up to the line since i was alone, was off, racked, socks and shoes on in no time and then off What would you do differently?: just move quicker Run
Comments: not good, i've always had bad form but what little i do have broke down after less than a mile, was out of breath for the whole thing and had people passing me left and right, What would you do differently?: run faster Post race
Warm down: walked around a bit, got some food, did some cheering went down by the water and just relaxed a bit, checked my times, chatted a few people i know up, thanked some volunteers, drank some disqusting SOBE drink ugh, had a million things to do so was going to head out then saw i was third in my age group so stuck around for my hardware and then booked it outta there. What limited your ability to perform faster: not training definately got in the way Event comments: great venue and staff, had a great time and the weather was unbelievable. I'll def be back next year Last updated: 2009-06-04 12:00 AM

Havent really been working out much at all since my half on June 14th so went into this with quite a bit of trepidation wondering how i'd hold up. I've only swam a couple times in over a month but was sure i'd be able to hold my own in that, but i've only been on the tri bike once in that same time period so i wasnt sure on how aero was going to feel, and i've run only a couple of times and knew i was going to hurt on the 5k.
but anyways, woke up at 5 was out the door at 5:40ish, kelci had a flat tire so we loaded up the wrangler and headed to the lake, got signed in and bike racked and stood around talking for a while
jogged in my sandels with kelci to warm up the legs, then went and climbed in the lake and swam probably 500 yards total, and then went up for the pre race talk, had a gel, heard the national anthem which was pretty cool before a race, and then back down and climbed in the water since i was in the first wave
