Total Time = 3h 02m 58s
Overall Rank = 11/203
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 10/15
Pre-race routine:

Got to transition early and set up my area. THe guy next to me was a bit of a space hog so I had to do some rearranging
Sat around and listened to the RD outline in DETAIL rules and the course. Good but a little too hard core
Event warmup:

Just got the limbs moving
Swim
  • 39m 56s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim was much slower than last weeks OLY. I actually felt like I was swimming at a good pace for me. The issue is that my navigation. I probably add 100+meters to the swim with my zigging and zagging. I need to check if there is a hitch in my stroke that pulls me to one direction. Other than the slow time and poor navigation I felt good in the water
What would you do differently?:

Swim in a straight line!!!!!!!!!
Transition 1
  • 03m 21s
Comments:

Longer than normal run to T1. other than that it was good
Bike
  • 1h 15m 12s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.83 mile/hr
Comments:

I was very surprised at my time and average speed!! It felt like I was riding much faster than last week's OLY when I averaged 21 mph. My effort was strong and I rode well.
What would you do differently?:

Be more careful to watch the road. There were two small bumps that I hit unexpectedly that could have done me in
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Good
Run
  • 1h 02m 30s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

I started off well and kept a good pace (for me) until a little after the turn around. I just lost it mentally. I wasn't overly fatigued or underhydrated, I just wasn't into it after mile 4. I ended up walking in spurts for the last 2 miles just because. Just wanted to be done. Plain and simple it was a poor mental effort.
What would you do differently?:

Train Train Train.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and hydrated. Nothing Special

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It is very clear, if I want to improve my times it is going to happen in the swim and run legs of the race. Improved navigation will help the swim. Other than that, lessons will be required. For the run (which I have neglected this year) I need to start training to run fast rather than to just run. This is the area will I will be able to improve most

Event comments:

Waco was a great setting for a Triathlon. It had a good swim course and a fantastic bike and run course. I can easily see this becoming a much larger event.

Performance: Below average

Course: Good course on the Brazos river. Despite some people's concerns the water was very clean. The course had us go under 3 bridges and then back again. I always like going under bridges. Good course set up

Course: Great bike course. It was flat and the the surface was smooth. There was some congestion going out with the riders from the Sprint race. Many of them rode on the left and weren't paying attention to others. Once we split off though there was plenty of room to ride

Course: Flat and shaded for the first 1 1/2 miles then the hills came. there were three rolling hills to the turn around and then you hit them on the way back. This lasted until mile 3 1/2. Then you crossed the Brazos and ran along the river to the end. Looking back this was a great run course. The hills really hit you but they weren't too punishing (just enough to make it interesting)
