Swim
Comments: The swim improved by 1.75 minutes. Upper 20th percentile overall. What would you do differently?: Be more aggressive at the start. In the first race, I was with the clydesdales so I knew I would be near the lead of the group. In this race (the second one), I didn't want to get in the way of the "better" athletes. Next time, I'll be at the front of the group on the entry. I didn't like having to wait on some of the other guys to start to swim when I was still only waist deep. Overall, I can't complain about the swim becuase of the time. Transition 1
Comments: This T1 was actually 45 seconds faster than my first race. I walked through part of the transition area (it was long). What would you do differently?: Run all the way to my bike. I'll have clip in pedals for the third race... that should be interesting. Bike
Comments: I had problems with my contacts halfway through the couse. I nearly had to stop - twice. What would you do differently?: Not wear contacts to the race and use my prescription sunglasses on the bike and run. I'll just have to be a little blind on the swim. Transition 2
Comments: Not sure what happened here, but this T2 was thirty seconds slower than in the first race. On the approach to the entry to T2, we had to go completely around the transition area. That is fine, but I will have to be mentally prepared for that next time. This confused a lot of the athletes. Some of us slowed down too soon. What would you do differently?: Run with the bike more. Plan to get rid of the helmet sooner. Run
Comments: Getting better but still a long way to go and still just need to push through the mental stuff. What would you do differently?: Find a pacer earlier and stick with them longer. Focus. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Contacts giving problems on the bike. Poor planning in transition. Need to menatlly prepare for transition upon the approach from the swim and bike. Mental weakness on the run. No problems with the food and energy level. Had lots of food the two days before, even bought some noodles just to be sure I had enough carbs. Had part of an energy dring morning of. Event comments: This was a great course. The only drawback, in my opinion, was that the run was done on a faily narrow path. It was nice to run in the shade and with a nice view, but the path was just too narrow for an event with hundreds of people. The drinks and food after the race were nice. The staff was helpful and there were plenty of volunteers. Last updated: 2009-06-05 12:00 AM
