Swim
Comments: this was a bad swim. I was uncomfortable being around other people and did what I could to stay away from others. That wasn't too hard as there weren't many people in the water. I stayed close to the buoy line on the way out of the first lap every now and then going to close the line. At the turnaround some guy was in my way and asking questions about the course. Headed back in and sighted horribly. Multiple times I went way far right, possibly 30 yards off course. I really lengthened the swim because of this on both laps. Had to go on beach for turnaround and touch the wall. I was breathing heavy and not doing great, waded back into water and started on my way. Followed buoy line again, too close where I had to avoid the line a few times, choked on water a bunch. After turnaround I had to stop to choke and spit, lots of mucous was in my throat. Swimming was not going well. Again was horridly off course and not in a great mental place. Thought was to just stroke my way in and get through all of it. Never tried to swim fast and never really swam well. What would you do differently?: Sight and train and sight while I train. Also need to add open water swimming to my training. Transition 1
Comments: I was winded, I did not push anything. Hugged my daughter and chatted with wife while I put on my shoes. I was not at all going to race anymore. I told my wife I would not push myself too hard. She was concerned about me getting hurt since I hadn't trained so I agreed to not do anythign stupid. What would you do differently?: probabaly not where socks that fit so snuggly. Train for race. Bike
Comments: the bike was not so great as was anything in this race. Mentally I just wanted to pedal at an okay rate. I had no illusion of catching anyone and my goal was to go at a rate that would allow me to run. I didn't push on any section. I had some trouble at one hill, that was not big but it winded me. Followed up by letting heart rate get back down. There were some sections where I was wondring why i was on the course and not enjoying myslef. Doing a race without rtaining is just stupid. What would you do differently?: Get back to training. Just didn't train and it showed. Transition 2
Comments: got a drink of water, took of helmet and went on my way. Run
Comments: At the end of the bike I stood up on my pedals to try and avoid dead legs, it seemed to have worked. I just ran this race, slowly. I knew I didn't have a tank and was not going to push it ever, so I just did right foot left foot repeat. There were times when I wanted to run down people and times when I wanted to walk. Mostly I was embarassed with my performance. Last half mile I considered going faster but again I promised the wife I wouldn't push it so I didn't. What would you do differently?: Have I mentioned train? Post race
Warm down: Walked around to catch breathe. drank some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: no training Event comments: This is a free race where you self support. No water anywhere on course and everything is super laid back. I like it and will continue to do these events. Last updated: 2009-06-05 12:00 AM

Slept horribly, waking every hour or less all night. Woke up with a headache then ate some cheerios and went to race. I did not train for this race since May and knew it would be a bad day. Only showed up to finish and really can't think of any other reason not to other than I wanted to do it a few months ago.
No warmup whatsoever, I am not comfortable at races yet and did not have any plans.
