Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6:00 a.m. - had a coffee, bagel with marg, banana and an apple juice.
My nerves were getting the best of me and was super anxious and nervous to start.
Was scheduled to start in the 3rd heat, so it was good to see the first heats and how they swam.
Event warmup:

Didn't warm up - never thought about that.
Swim
  • 17m 42s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

Personal Best on the swim - although, I only went about 2 lengths with bilateral breathing, so I could have done better there.
Also - was taking 2 breaths at the wall each time - could have made those smoother also.
Had a pain in my side that started at about 2 a.m. and lasted all morning until I took 2 advil and 2 gas-x, could have been my nerves!
What would you do differently?:

Try bilateral breathing for at least 1/2 of the distance, plus better turns.
Not have Boston Pizza spaghetti the night before - eat a little lighter the night before.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

They didn't time the transitions.
Bike helmet that I borrowed didn't fit - should have tried it on more (only once) before the race!
Bike
  • 59m 23s
  • 20 kms
  • 20.21 km/hr
Comments:

Bike was ok - felt like I was going hard, but I'm fairly certain it will be my last race on a mountain bike! Road bikes passed me like crazy!
What would you do differently?:

Get a new bike!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 31m 30s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 18s  min/km
Comments:

Was ok, would have liked to break 30 min - although it's still a personal best for me!
Am usually at 7.3/km - so I was happy I ran faster than in my training!
What would you do differently?:

Not drink so much during the bike - was quite bloated and watered down.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank gatorade, ate some fruit. Felt pretty queasy for the first 15 min, sat down and was ok after 15.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My bike!

Event comments:

Best race so far!
Accomplished quite a few goals:
-under 2hrs
-under 1hr on the bike (barely!)
-didn't stop at the wall (no swim breaks)
-didn't stop pedalling
-didn't walk, ran the entire way even through transition

Plus broke my swim and run records!
It was a great morning - all I kept thinking about was how great it was going to feel after it was all over!

Had no idea that the transition areas were not timed, at least that data was not posted.
