Swim
Comments: Because of the large number of participants, the organizers lined the male/females (separately) into lanes, not really be age group or anything. If you were the first in line, you got a certain color swim cap. The timers (lifeguards) wrote down your name, number, and age group. They consistently did the same for each lane. The different colored swim caps start times were staggered by 10 seconds. The timers sat at one end of the pool and checked off each time you completed a length and they tracked that you are done, they wave the kickboard in the water to tell you to go to T11. This was a little different, but it worked out well. I don't know what my time was because I started my Forerunner (on multisport mode) about 20 minutes before my swim. What would you do differently?: Warmed up while the women were swimming instead of hanging out to watch. Transition 1
Comments: For some reason, I got a little dizzy then I was in T1. It lasted a few seconds and I was on my way. What would you do differently?: Remember to start my Forerunner when I start T1. Bike
Comments: No clue about my ranking since they didn't give results by discipline. Transition 2
Comments: I lost one of my shoes when I was transitioning. It didn't really matter since I didn't go back for it until after the race was over. Run
Comments: No clue about my ranking since they didn't give results by discipline. I was pretty beat up after the bike that I didn't have the pep that I usually have in the run. I passed a good group of people, but there was one college aged guy that was always 10 seconds ahead of me and I just couldn't catch him. What would you do differently?: More brick workouts. Also, I wouldn't be injured the previous month that basically reduced my running by 75%. Post race
Event comments: This is a great race. When you consider the fact that it is free for military personnel or $10 for everybody else, this is perfect. There were a lot of members from the local tri community. While the number of participants is small compared to the typical USAT race, there were a lot of very competitive people and they really pushed me hard!! Because it starts/finishes at the outdoor pool facility area, bathrooms were plentiful and I was able to shower up before the post race activities and before driving home. Nice trophies too!! I would definitely do it again next year. Last updated: 2009-06-06 12:00 AM
