Swim
Comments: Felt good on the swim, was seeded according to submitted 100m times, started 59th out of a field of 400, and passed 2 people in the pool. What would you do differently?: Listen more closely to course route and place my sandals at the actual exit point so I won't have to double-back to get them. Transition 1
Comments: Had to run across the entire Transition area to get to my spot, went slow and smooth in T1 to not make any mistakes. The shortest T1 time was 1:53, so this shows how far between timing mat and reaching bilkes in T1 is apart. What would you do differently?: Nothing, went well. Bike
Comments: Took first turn too fast and wide, ran off road and went into wet, soggy ditch, wheel stuck in mud and somer-saulted over the bike. Chain popped off, etc... I was okay but wet, grassy, and muddy - so was the bike. Lost my gel pack when I flipped and all the water from my Aero-Bottle spilled out so had no water for the entire ride. What would you do differently?: Take my turns more carefully - learn how to ride a damn bike without falling off. Get a 2nd water bottle, the kind that goes into a cage. Transition 2
Comments: Went fairly well, was a little flustered because of the bike wreck and fact I was thirsty. Took some extra time to drink some Heed/Water and wipe some mud and grass off of me. What would you do differently?: Not have had creshed on the bike, so that I could get through T2 faster. Run
Comments: First few hunderd yards calves wanted to cramp... just keep very short but higher-cadence strides. Took the first 3/4 mile for my legs to come around after the bike, then felt pretty good. Probably could've pushed a little harder but knew the hills were coming and was determined to run it all and do no walking. Actually not too bad a pace for me considering the amount of hills. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder. Need to train more at running and get faster. Looking at the results I'm actually a MPO'er in the Swim and Bike, but BOP'er in the Run ... which brings my Overall rating down to BOP. Post race
Warm down: Not much, just turned in chip, met up with my son, got bike and things from Transition and took to car, then went and showered, then partook of the post-race snacks and events. Did go to the YMCA a few hours later to swim another 1000 yards to get loosened back up. What limited your ability to perform faster: Running into the ditch and flipping over my bike. Event comments: Very well organized, especially for it's first year. Lots of FREE food and snacks afterwards, even free beer for those that drink. Lots of booths and activities for family members and even a kids section with wall climbing, big slides, moon bounce thingy, face painting, etc ... free massages afterwards, lots for freebie give-aways.... very well-ran event.
