Swim
Comments: did not get stepped on by tall donkeyman travis this year, but, as "luck" would have it, had to contend with tall donkeyman 1sttimetri the whole freakin way! we was goofing some and i screwed him up a tad and he got me back later on and caused me to laugh a bit which in turn got me a mouth full of lake michigan, which in turn caused me to stop and stand up and put my left foot into a small little sink hole or something, which in turn caused my left calf to cramp up like nobody's business!! holy ouchers batman!! passed a lifeguard who actually asked if i was ok........honestly? if thiw were deeper water, couldve been pretty early exit for djdavey! What would you do differently?: stay away from fill up!!! ;) other than that tho, no complaints at all. 2008 - 38:30 Goal - 35:00 Transition 1
Comments: unzipped the wetsuit as soon as i stood up and the stripped the sleeves off, then off came the goggles and cap. let the suit hang down and counted the racks in Transition until i got to 15, stopped, left hand turn count to 7 and BOOM there's sharkbait!! and the wetsuit by this point was down to my knees. grabbed helmet and put that on with the sunglasses while stepping out of wetsuit. did have to hook the thumb to get the left leg out but oh well. grabbed the gels and endurolytes, put them in the side panels of the donkeyhead. snapped on the fanny pack repair kit and away i went! What would you do differently?: nadda. 2008 - 3:55 Goal - 2:30 Bike
Comments: was cruising along in the beginning hoping my calf would be ok as i was still feeling the effects of the cramp from the swim. came up on the turn onto 4 mile road and what do i see? wife, toby and the inlaws. signs, donkey ears, donkey shirts, camera and camcorder and lots of cheering!! motivational boost big time and decided to DTFU and go baby go!! (this is my fastest average for the bike in any race of any distance ever) What would you do differently?: nadda. 2008 - 2:36:47 Goal - 2:31:00 Transition 2
Comments: slid feet out of shoes just before the top of the hill, coasted down said hill, and hopped off! everything worked perfectly! quick rack of bike, helmet off, visor on, socks on then shoes, grab gel, ditch endurolyte baggy and off i went! What would you do differently?: nadda 2008 - 1:56 Goal - 1:00 Run
Comments: really focused on a steady pace and not burn out in the beginning, especially on those hills. also in the back of my mind was running down Rusty and Lord Helmet. was difficult at times to stay on pace but did manage it. was totally EEEEAAAAWWWWsome to see so many freakin donkey jerseys out there and then to read everything that some hoodlum put on the roads and sidewalks all along the run course! (oh and people. if you take cups from the volunteers at the aid stations, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, sweet mother of Jesus, PLEASE do NOT stop once you have gotten your cup. us people behind you just might run into you.......) What would you do differently?: not too much here but i do think i couldve pushed a bit more..... 2008 - 2:03:34 Goal - 1:35 Overall: 2008 - 5:24:42 Goal - Sub 5, check, accomplished Goal 2 - check, accomplished Goal 3 - check, accomplished if you add up the goal times going thru this the total was 4:44:30 which represented the "high" end goal that i had, my "honest" goal was sub 5 and my "happy with" goal was to PR. I did have two other goals also that were met as well. I would have to put this down as my best race ever! Post race
Warm down: walked thru the chute after the finish line, got my medal and bottle of water, chatted with some donks and other peeps. got four PBJs, a shredded pork sandwich, some cookies and some chips and beans plus two sodas.........then went back to the donkey corral and ate and chatted with the fam and the donkey fam. Was totally amazing to see so many freakin donkey jerseys out there whether it was the donkey head or the new green one.........amazing!! What limited your ability to perform faster: nadda Event comments: lots of volunteers! well marked course all over, even most pot holes and trouble spots on the bike were marked up. saw lots of course marshals as well. Great job on a Great event! Last updated: 2009-06-08 12:00 AM

Quick stop at speedway for some javaliciousness and off to PjtacobellGrande's house to pick up Deanna! off to the race. once there, set up Transition spot, air in the tires, potty break and off to the swim start!
heard the water was cold so had to get in and swim a bit. took that first plunge and the air left me!!! after that it was alright tho!
