Swim
Comments: Definitely best swim start and best overall swim of all the triathlons I've done. Very little pushing and splashing for position at start. Started on outside right and stayed toward the right for the entire swim, which gave me plenty of space to swim in. What would you do differently?: Had a little bit of a hard time sighting on return. Could probably use new (maybe polarized) goggles, since my goggles were getting a little foggy, plus there was sun. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit strippers are the best thing in the world! I took the time to eat a Gu and have a sip of water in transition. Went smoothly overall. What would you do differently?: Figure out some way to not have my shirt get all rolled up and stuck on my back. It happens every time! Bike
Comments: Was doing really good (for me) and was totally psyched about how well the ride was going. And then, on the so-called "dangerous hill" downhill at mile 23, I tapped my breaks and POP...hiss. Pulled over safely and got the tire off and tube out myself, only to discover that my pump was not made for the right kind of tire valve. Which meant I had to wait for the help truck to arrive. Lost 14 minutes all together and watched what felt like my whole team go by! Then, got another flat at entrance to park. Hopped off and ran bike in at that point. Overall, I was very happy with what my bike time would have been (1:45:01) and my performance on the hills. I also dropped my chain around mile 6.5 but put it back on so quickly that it wasn't even a problem. What would you do differently?: Learn a lot more about bike maintenance. Take my bike in to have it checked out before a major race. Transition 2
Comments: Relatively fast T2. Much less to change. I think I was relieved to be done with the bike. What would you do differently?: Get Yankz or whatever to speed up tying shoes. Also, I forgot to take the dead tube out of my back shirt pocket. Oops! Hopefully that is not something I will have to do differently in the future. Run
Comments: Didn't run quite as fast as I'd intended. Not sure if it was because the flat killed my momentum or if I was just more tired than anticipated. Heart rate felt pretty high going up those hills and calves were a little tight. Stopped and walked a couple steps while drinking at each water stop to keep heart rate under control. Overall, decent but not great run. I could do better. What would you do differently?: Train on more hills. Also be more confident. Post race
Warm down: Came into finish line, remembered to smile. Got towel and water bottle (with confusing drink spout). Ignored food in shoot. Mingled with teammates. Tried to figure out water bottle. Eventually ate a cookie. What limited your ability to perform faster: Getting a flat tire. Event comments: EndorFUN runs really great races, and this was no exception. Plenty of food, support, activities, etc. both days. Even though I got a flat, I was happy with my performance on the course, which was plenty challenging but not too hard. Got up at 4 a.m., at PB&J in car. Realized I forgot race packet. Drove back and got it. Got marked, set up transition area, put on wetsuit.
Brief swim in Newfound Lake to acclimate to cold temps.
