Swim
Comments: Note to self - decide on jump in or cannonball before getting on the timing mat. Half way decided, peformed most grace-less entry in the history of triathlons - half jump, half cannonball, half dive - yes, that is three halves - you get the picture. Googles half hanging on face, full of water - fantastic start. Stopped at first wall and adjusted my googles. Other than that, swim was pretty good, a couple of people passed me and I passed a couple. 50m lanes was a different swimming experience. Must add some of those in the future before one a race with them... Transition 1
Comments: This was one long T1 - out of the pool, run the length of it, out the door, up the ramp, through the parking lot to get to the right rack. Time was not far off the top 3 in my AG What would you do differently?: Run faster... Bike
Comments: First lap was not bad, I was consistently picking up time as I went about 1/3 way into second lap, I started having tightness in my lower back that turned into a pain. Backed off the pace as it hurt more to push harder. Hoped that it wouldn't get worse on the run when the back usually tightens up. What would you do differently?: Not sure - perhaps have no back pain? Work on core in off season more. - maybe some yoga classes... Transition 2
Comments: Still hung up on the socks thing... I need to tighten up my pedals, when I try to ride pull my feet out of the shoes and ride on pedals, I am pulling the shoe out of the cleat and causing a worse problem trying to run/walk in bike shoes that are flopping around on my feet. This time I kicked the shoes off and carried them... What would you do differently?: Sockless running... Tighten pedal tension some Run
Comments: Brutal... walked way too much. Back was not bad, but I was cooking out there - that and it was humid too. I probably started my run at 11:00 or so. First part had little shade and sun was reflecting back up off the white concrete. Second part had a litle shade, but part of the run was over grass which amped up humidity to the next level. Didn't think it was ever going to end. I was somewhat releived to hear that many people struggled with the run. What would you do differently?: Heat train in the summer, all my running all summer has been early in the morning or on a TM in the A/C. Focus on run fitness! Post race
Warm down: Water, water, water - search for shade - water, What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat, training. Overall this was a crappy race performance for me. I had hoped for better, but I believe the conditions made it harder than I planned. I seemed to finish in about the same place or a little better than the last tri in terms of AG and friends performance. The race did impact my confidence in my ability to do a olympic. I have pushed it back and will do the Stonebridge sprint instead with an option to to do the US open Olympic... Event comments: Overall this was the maybe the best tri I have done. Very close to the Playtri festival - lots of stuff to do, stuff to keep family entertained, etc. Oh yeah, they had BEER at finish line - that is enough by itself to turn the volume up to eleven! Swam 100m - that was about it. Took longer to check into transition than I thought it would. Will arrive earlier next time so I can jog a little.
