Swim
Comments: I'm still awfully slow on the swim, but last year I did this swim in 20:02, so I cut off almost 3 minutes. I didn't walk any of it, unlike many people, because I knew it would kill my legs. What would you do differently?: swim faster? Transition 1
Comments: Hate the wetsuit- I am always fighting with it at T1. What would you do differently?: New wetsuit? Bike
Comments: This felt really hard for the first few miles- lots of steady uphill. I went back and forth with a couple ladies from my AG. I finally pulled ahead of most of them after the second turn, and started to feel more lively. I still can't push up hills well- I get passed on the uphill, then pass on the flat. On the other hand, last year I averaged 15.7 MPH on this course, so I'm not complaining too much. What would you do differently?: Train more for power cycling- but I knew that! Transition 2
Comments: I was wondering why I was so slow, and then remembered that I did have trouble racking the bike on the slot-thing I ended up using. Probably cost me 20 seconds. What would you do differently?: Rack bike on a normal spot Run
Comments: I was happy to be under 9 m/m, but it was still slower than Skinnyman. I haven't done as much running in the last month because of my overtraining issues, so maybe it's the effect of that, or maybe the bike effort was too much for the legs. What would you do differently?: Run faster! Post race
Warm down: Found husband and two bored children, sent them home. Watched the kids triathlon. What limited your ability to perform faster: Training as always! Overall I'm pretty happy with this effort though, and I'm looking forward to building strength on the bike and speed on the swim, so I can knock another 6 minutes off next year ;). Event comments: I do like this race, but there are some things they could do better. If we are going to be waiting 2 hours for our wave to start, at least have some water out for us! Got up at 5:10, made coffee, ate 1/2 a bagel with peanut butter on the drive in. Got there with plenty of time to set up- the tricky thing about this race is that the transition area closes at 7:15, but my wave didn't start until 9:25! I ate the other half bagel, at 7, then a gel at 9. Drank water and coffee. It was also COLD- I put my cycling gloves over my toes (I wore flipflops while waiting around). Next year I'm wearing my Uggs! Found Jackie and Rob and Terry and Dawn. Chatted. Waited. Husband came, chatted, waited, and then it was finally time to go.
Chatting. Waiting. Swam a few strokes at the start.
