Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 3:30am, ate a bagel with peanut butter and honey, and an apple and drank 24 oz of water. My truck was already loaded up so I left the house around 4am.
Event warmup:

Swam about 250 meters as a warm up and ran for about 5 minutes
Swim
  • 13m 8s
  • 482 meters
  • 02m 42s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim went better than I expected being as I thought it would be my worst event. I did poorly sighting which affected my time however my breathing was good and I felt comfortable the entire swim.
What would you do differently?:

Sight better
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Went great for my first race. Was listed as 5 fastest in Clydesdale below 40.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 43m 48s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.18 mile/hr
Comments:

Ride went well.... I hoped to average 20 and fell below that pace, and I think I paced myself a little slow trying to save energy for the run. Ride was enjoyable but I didn't push myself as hard as I should have pushed.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Everything went great (I actually felt like I knew what I was doing), then as I'm about to leave transition, someone yells, "Wears your number?" Darn I forget to put my race belt on....... and my race is at the furthest corner of transition. I sprint back to my rack and place my race belt on, but by now my mind is racing about the making the mistake.
What would you do differently?:

Put my number on.
Run
  • 34m 41s
  • 3.3 miles
  • 10m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

After my mishap in T2 it took me about 2 miles to compose myself, and get my heart rate under control. My last mile was my fastest, but they were all slower than my training times. I was surprised how one mishap could affect my mental state so much.
What would you do differently?:

PUT my number on in T2, and not let a mishap affect me so much.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank recoverite, spoke to John, Justin, Craig, Merry and Keri and spent ime with my family. Also spoke to several other BTers. It was a great time.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just learning how to pace... should have went harder on the bike, and stayed more foucs during the run.

Event comments:

Average since this was my first race and have nothing to compare it to.
