Pre-race routine:

Listen to some motivational tunes and went and looked at the swim course. Helped some new people rack their bike correctly so they didn’t get the call of shame from Jack.

Comments:

This was my first open water swim so I held back to try to stay out of the pack of flying arms and legs. Even doing this I caught up to the large group and had to slow it down. At one point a boat that was there to help us if needed ran into the race course when his engine throttle got stuck. Overall I expended too much energy trying to avoid people.
What would you do differently?:

I will swim more on the outside next time.

I had trouble putting on my socks even though I rolled them before the race. I rolled them on upside down on each foot and had to remove them and put them back on correctly.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to ride sockless in my shoes.

This was my first race on my new bike that I got a week ago. Did not push it and spent 50% of the time out of the aero position. Had trouble getting to my water bottle and had this fear I would drop it so went without for most of this part of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Need to spend more hours on the new bike.

This is the weakest part of my training and lack of hydration showed. I walked / ran the whole course.
What would you do differently?:

I need to spend a lot more time running and doing bricks.

Warm down:

Walked around and cheered the other racers into the finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Seeing how this is only my second triathlon ever and that I have been part-time training for only nine months I’m happy with my results. The only limiting factor is myself.

Event comments:

There was plenty of water and Gatorade available for after the race and of course pizza.
