Swim
Comments: I felt really good about my performance in this swim!! Since my first race was such a disaster for me on the swim (20 minutes for 600 meters, with a run up to transition), I lined up in the back left side of my wave. With my issues with open water seemingly resolved, I was able to do freestyle the entire race (Goal #1 accomplished). The only problem was I think I actually lined up to far back now and I was having a hard time fighting past people to move faster. What would you do differently?: Line up a little closer to the front. Start out a little faster and then settle into my pace. Practice rounding buoys. Transition 1
Comments: Good improvement here over last TI time (2:25). I tried to dry off more last time, but I just rinsed off my feet in my water, wiped off feet, put on socks and shoes and left. What would you do differently?: Figure out how I'm going to remove bike without transition stuff getting in the way. Bike
Comments: I have GOT to get a road bike! I lost way to many places on this leg, but I am convinced a lot of this is my big heavy bike compared to the many beautiful road bikes - although I will admit I also need to work on the bike more. I actually passed a few people this race and there were always people within sight - so that was nice compared to last race. If it was a 13 mile race, as I think it was, then I gained 1 MPH over last race - yeah! :) What would you do differently?: Get a new bike. Work on hills more. I forgot to grab my gel in T1, so I wish I had had that for the bike leg. Transition 2
Comments: When I came back in to T2, the rack was pretty full and there wasn't really space for my bike anymore - GRR. It took some work to get my bike back on the rack, which is why this transition wasn't as fast as my last race. What would you do differently?: Not sure how I can control where other people put their bikes in T2? Run
Comments: This was much slower than I would have liked, but it was getting hot and very humid. The hills seemed much larger than they probably were and I was tired! :) Okay, I should focus on my running more and I know it - lesson learned! What would you do differently?: Run faster. :) Post race
Warm down: The cool water coming out of the finish line arch was wonderful! :) Drank some water, stretched and tried to eat a little. I can never eat after a race, but I tried to eat some, because I knew it would be a while before I'd get another chance to eat. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of a road bike, lack of run training. Event comments: I thought this was a very well organized race with LOTS of very friendly volunteers. We even got race medals at the finish line that volunteers put on our neck - that was an unexpected treat! :) The race Tshirt is actually cute and cut for a woman - this is a great thing about a woman's race to me. The shirts never fit me right in normal races, so that's definately a plus! Last updated: 2005-08-15 12:00 AM

Had packed my transition bag and loaded the bike on the car the night before. I thought I had everything ready, but never checked that we had any peanut butter for my customary breakfast. So, I had to be a little creative. I had a dry whole wheat waffle and picked up PB crackers from a gas station on the way and ate just the PB. :) It seemed to work pretty well as a substitute.
Got in the water and swam to one of the buoys and back - probably 75 meters? - just to make sure I would be okay in the lake this time. Felt pretty good, except that I could feel my heartrate go up a little higher than I would like. Light stretching while waiting for my wave to start.
