Swim
Comments: First ever swim in any wetsuit. They cancelled swim practice the day before due to thunderstorms. I felt good in the wet suit although my arms were heavy and hurting by the end. I wondered if the wetsuit was too tight. Also a little miffed that I ripped my wetsuit in two places getting it on. I hung back at the start but I shouldn't have. I ended up passing most of my group in the first 200m. My goggles fogged up immediately and sighting was difficult. I had to stop twice and take my goggles off just to figure out where the buoy was. What would you do differently?: Obviously I have room to improve here. I should start at front because I swim better than most and I need to make sure my goggles do not fog. Transition 1
Comments: Getting wetsuit off wasn't too bad. I think I was doing ok until I had to mount my bike. I just stood there for a second saying how do I do this again? It took forever to get into my shoes and 6 people passed me while I did this. What would you do differently?: Practice mount my bike and get triathlon cycling shoes. Bike
Comments: I did well on the bike. I tried very hard to pace myself so I wouldn't collapse on the run. My heart rate was initially up around 174 and I knew there was no way I could maintain that. What would you do differently?: Other than getting on the bike faster, not much. Transition 2
Comments: Did well with this transition. I think I can do all of the above a little faster but overall this was pretty smooth. Run
Comments: My legs felt 100% better out of transition than they usually do. I don't know if this is because of the new bike or new shoes, neither or both. First mile was still a little rough. My stride stayed short and I tried to keep the pace up. After this though my legs felt good and it was mainly my cardiovascular fitness that was holding me up. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Just need to get in better shape to improve here. Post race
Warm down: Water, banana, some bagel, walked around alot. What limited your ability to perform faster: Goggles foggy, poor bike mount, windy conditions. Event comments: Watching the pros after the race was great and I hope they do this again next year. Last updated: 2009-06-12 12:00 AM
