Swim
Comments: Stuck to the game plan this time. I was in wave one, so when the horn went I took a second to start my watch and let the faster swimmers go. I then walked more than jogged out deeper to start the swim. Focused on getting a good stroke going at the pace I wanted. The biggest thing I keep doing was just trying to relax and swim at the pace I knew would work. Even though I was one of the last in the water I passed about 1/2 the wave before the turn. As I came into the beach, I was in clear water as I had moved to the front of the average/slower swimmers. Most of fast swimmers were already out and gone. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this was a very good swim result for me. I need to continue to work on swimming but for my skills this was a great result for me. Transition 1
Comments: Overall a good transition. My wetsuit came off quickly. I did a quick dry with a towel to get my jersey on easier, it didn't work. The only hickup was the jersey but I got that pulled on after a few moments. Got out and up to speed pretty quickly. What would you do differently?: Need to rethink my choice for a jersey. Bike
Comments: I went as hard as I could for bike course. My goal for today was to push my bike pace and if I blow up on the run so be it. I hammered the gears and keep a high cadence. I stuck with a lot of people and only got caught by a handful of really good bikers. I couldn't be happier with the bike. I was hoping for 18+ mph and I hit 19.2. What would you do differently?: I think I pushed this as hard as I could. This is a great result for where I am at. I need to continue to get time on bike and getting a set of aerobars and clipless pedals would be a good idea. Transition 2
Comments: Went smooth, don't know if I could improve it today. Run
Comments: Came of the bike well but left calf was cramping. I kept telling myself to push and to block out an discomfort. The calf cramp release about 1 mile in. I knew at one mile I was running sub 10 minute miles but I wanted to hit 9 minute miles or below. I started to focus on opening up my stride and relaxing. I was hurting on second half of the run, but really just focused on putting one foot infront of the other and hitting my pace. Pretty excited that I finished my first 5k at sub 9 minute miles. Not much but still below. What would you do differently?: Again this is just where i am at physically right now. I am excited about this result. I need more time running to keep improving Post race
Warm down: Walked around, got some bananas, and got a chance to talk to some other BTers. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just need more time to get in better shape and lose more weight. I think this is a pretty great result for where I am. I am going to use this experience to build upon and look for improvement in my next races. Event comments: Really liked this course. Let me feel fast on the bike, which I loved. Last updated: 2009-06-13 12:00 AM

Woke up about 4:20 made three rolled pancakes and grape jelly. Loaded my daughter up to drop her off at the relatives and was out the door. Got to the race site about 6:20. Set up my transition area and tried worry about the swim before the race started.
Short swim once we got the ok.
