Swim
Comments: This was my first race OWS. I wasn't certain how to pace. I also wanted to be conservative and keep my HR down. I was not bothered by the open water or murkiness. What would you do differently?: My time stinks! I was expecting to be several minutes quicker. I see now that I took much too relaxed of a pace. In the future, I will try to pick up the pace and try not to zig-zag as much. Transition 1
Comments: I entered the wrong aisle which cost several seconds. I did not hurry at all. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention. Pick up the pace a little. Bike
Comments: The bike segment went well. I was so weak on the swim segment, that I passed numerous people along the way. Only 2 passed me, but that was after I had already passed them. I repassed them later. The 2 were drafting for the 12 miles that we were together, riding just a couple of feet off of each other until climbs. It TO'd me, and I was not going to let them beat me to T2. What would you do differently?: I was worried about hydration and nutrition and overdid it a tad. It didn't bother me till the run. Transition 2
Comments: This was my first race with bike shoes. i haven't yet learned to efficiently do T2. I also changed to dry socks for the run. What would you do differently?: Not much. I just need to practice more. Run
Comments: I had side-stitches for the first 1.5 miles and was regurging the power bar that I ate at the beginning of the bike. After this resolved, I was able to slightly pick up the pace and then again with about a mile left. It felt good, although i really expected significantly slower times! What would you do differently?: Drink less on the bike. Post race
Warm down: Walked to the refreshments, ate pasta and rice crispy treats. When I got nome, I used the foam roller. What limited your ability to perform faster: 1. Genetics!!!! 2. Not logging enough miles on the bike to have fresher legs for the run. 3. Poor swim pacing. 4. Poor swimmer in general. 5. Slow transitions. Event comments: It was a good race with a laid back atmosphere, a nice coarse, and plenty of water stations. There was real food, including catered pasta dishes at the finish, which was nice. The only change I would recommend is having the miles marked on the run. Overall, a well ran, fun race. Last updated: 2009-06-14 12:00 AM

I had a banana, yogurt and cup of hot tea for breakfast. Sat up my transition area. Checked the water.
