Swim
Comments: Terrible swim. Swallowed a mouth-full of water, which gave me stomach issues until halfway through the run. In traffic the whole time. Heart rate spiked. Better than I expected it to go, given the broke ribs and 5 weeks of no swimming. What would you do differently?: More than 0 yards of swim training. Transition 1
Comments: Decent transition. Trouble getting swim cap off, but fine by the time I got to the transition area. Had trouble clipping in, as sunglasses fogged and I couldn't tell that the right pedal was upside down. What would you do differently?: Leave sunglasses far enough down nose to see around them until after getting on the bike and up to speed. Bike
Comments: I considered this a terrible bike. I spent the whole ride trying not to puke up the lake water and what was left of my breakfast. I was initially hoping to have a 22mph average, but after the first mile, it was clear this wasn't going to happen. I just settled in to a comfortable pace. Wound up with #2 bike split in my AG and top 20% overall, so I guess it wasn't so bad, but it's frustrating since I know I'm capable of a top 10% (or maybe even top 5%) bike split. What would you do differently?: Not inhale any lake water. Transition 2
Comments: Slow into transition, since I was a still worried about puking. Overran my rack by a step; didn't lose more than a second or two. Otherwise pretty good. Run
Comments: Dead last in the run on my age group again (this time by 4 minutes). Still better than I had expected, given my lack of run training while my ribs were healing. I think if I had continued on from Labor Day with the same run plan, this could have been in the 25 minute range, which would still have been last in my age group, but would have put me on the podium (3rd) and top 25% overall. What would you do differently?: Run lots. Post race
Warm down: None. Met up with Steph and Scott and waited for Cville to come across the finish line. Then went mountain biking. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training (3.5 weeks of no biking, 5 weeks of no running, 7 weeks of no swimming) from broken ribs at the start of my build up phase for this race. Event comments: I really like this race. I prefer the course to Crystal River (by the same race director), and the double entendre of the Cooter Festival makes it a really fun event. Stayed in the Saltmarsh's camper with Cville. Nice to be so close to the race, but beds in the camper are designed for people 5'10" and under. 1 banana and 1 granola bar for breakfast. Shot of hammer gel 15 minutes prior to start.
None. Too chilly to get wet and then stand around in the breeze.
